MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Wesleyan University scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Cardinals rallied for a 5-2 NESCAC West Division win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Wesleyan's Dresser Diamond on Friday, April 28.
Season Update
- Hamilton moved to 17-12 overall and 5-5 in the division.
- Wesleyan (14-15, 6-4 NESCAC West) is tied for first place in the division with Middlebury.
How It Happened
- The Continentals took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
- The Cardinals took the lead by scoring three runs with two outs. A bases-loaded walk tied the score, and Ernie Little drove in the go-ahead runs with a single to center field.
- Wesleyan added an insurance run with two outs in the eighth on a solo homer by Luke LaSaracina.
- Hamilton, which left two runners stranded in scoring position in the top of the eighth, mustered a one-out walk in the ninth but nothing else.
- Hamilton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Phil Bernstein '23 led off with a double to left center and eventually scored on a groundout to the second baseman by Ethan Harrast '23.
- Wesleyan evened the score in the fourth with an unearned run.
- The Continentals regained the lead in the sixth. Taylor Kaufman '26 drew a one-out walk and stole second. Jackson Sattinger '24 smacked a two-out single through the left side that scored Kaufman.
Notes
- Kaufman was 1-for-1 with two walks, a sacrifice bunt and two stolen bases.
- Bernstein nailed his 43rd hit of the season and leads Hamilton with a .394 batting average.
- Sattinger drove in his 24th run and Harrast added his team-high 25th RBI.
- Jack Griffin '24 contributed his 27th career hit.
- Aidan Regan '24 allowed one unearned run through the first six innings. Regan collected five strikeouts in 6.1 innings, and allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk.
- Little led Wesleyan at the plate with two hits and two runs batted in.
- Luke LaSaracina recorded two hits and scored two runs for the Cardinals.
- Patrick Murphy (4-2) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks and struck out six in a complete game effort.

The Continentals and Wesleyan will meet for a doubleheader back in Middletown, Conn., on Saturday, April 29. The first pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for noon.
