CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Charlie Quinn '25 hit three singles and drove in a career-high five runs in the Continentals' 13-5 non-conference win against the Utica University Pioneers at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Wednesday.
Season Update
- Hamilton (17-18 overall) snapped its four-game losing skid with a dominating performance.
- Utica, which is a member of the Empire 8 Conference, moved to 17-14 overall.
How It Happened
- Hamilton built a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Katlynn McGivney '23 led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jordan Merklin '26 drew a walk and Ella Heftved '25 reached on a fielder's choice. Heftved stole second and Quinn nailed a two-run single to center field. Mikayla Worzel '23 ripped a two-out, two-run single to left and McGivney's infield single with the bases loaded scored another run.
- After retiring the Pioneers in order in the top half of the second, the Continentals blew things open with seven more runs. Heftved drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on a single up the middle by Quinn. Emma Tansky '25 slapped an infield hit and Natalie Beebe '24 loaded the bases with a walk. Worzel knocked in one run with a groundout, Samantha Smith '23 tapped an infield single and McGivney drove in Tanksy with a single up the middle. Merklin reached on a fielding error that scored Beebe and Heftved drove in another run with a single. Quinn plated two more runs with a single to center field.
- Trailing 12-0, the Pioneers broke through in the third inning with two runs on three hits and a walk.
- Hamilton added its last run in the bottom half of the inning. Worzel hit a two-out triple to center field and Smith drove in Worzel with a single to left field.
- Utica tacked on three runs in the fourth on two hits, three walks and a hit batter.
- The game ended due to the eight-run mercy rule after the Pioneers mustered just one baserunner on an infield error in the top of the fifth.

- McGivney went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two runs batted in. She set a team single-season record with her 52nd hit.
- Quinn tied a career high with three hits.
- Worzel recorded her first triple and knocked in a career-high three runs.
- Heftved led the Continentals with two stolen bases.
- Smith contributed two singles for her fifth multi-hit game this season.
- Beebe earned her ninth win of the season and the 22nd of her career. She allowed one walk and struck out one in two hitless innings.
- Lauren Paul led Utica with a single, a walk and two runs batted in.
- Emily Joss doubled and walked twice.
- The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed after the start of Game 1 was delayed an hour by rain.
