Baseball posts third straight lopsided win at home

Five Continentals had multiple hits, six pitchers combined to allow just one run

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Ethan Harrast '23 tripled, homered and tied a career high with four runs batted in as the Continentals cruised to an 11-1 non-conference win against the St. Lawrence University Saints at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on a cool and damp Wednesday, April 26.

Season Update

  • The Continentals (17-11 overall) have defeated their last three opponents by a combined score of 51-2.
  • St. Lawrence (9-18) lost all three games against Hamilton this season. The Saints were swept in a doubleheader in Florida back on March 20.

How It Happened

  • St. Lawrence threatened in the first and second innings but left runners stranded at second and third base both times. The Saints left a total of 13 runners on base.
  • The Continentals broke through with six runs in the bottom of the second. With one out Shane Dux '24 homered to left between the scoreboard and the camera platform. Michael Tallarida '26 followed with a single up the middle and Mike Altman '23 was hit by a pitch. Jackson Johns '24 advanced both runners with an excellent bunt towards third base, and Phil Bernstein '23 drew a walk. Taylor Kaufman '26 plated two runs with a bloop single down the line in right field, and Harrast hammered a line drive to left center that quickly cleared the fence for a three-run homer.
  • St. Lawrence left the bases loaded in the third inning, and Hamilton added three more runs in the fourth. Johns, Bernstein and Kaufman started the inning with singles, and Harrast drew a walk that forced in a run. Greg Kopp '25 was issued another free pass with one out and Bernstein walked home, and Dux made it 9-0 with a sacrifice fly.
  • The Saints scored their run in the fifth. Caleb Clark walked, stole second and came around on a single by Sean Desjardins.
  • Tallarida led off the bottom of the seventh with a towering shot over the fence in center field just to the left of the 400-foot sign.
  • The Continentals wrapped up the scoring in the eighth. Harrast led off with a triple to the gap in right center and crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Jackson Sattinger '24.

Notes

  • Harrast has multiple hits in four straight games.
  • Tallarida finished with three hits including his sixth home run, which is tied for third in the NESCAC.
  • Kaufman went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs batted in. He's tied with Harrast for the team lead with 24 RBI.
  • Dux ended up with two hits, including his fourth career home run, and drove in a pair.
  • Bernstein reached base three times on two singles and a walk. He's tied for fourth in the conference in batting average (.400) and on-base percentage (.500).
  • Kopp has a hit in his last six games.
  • Johns is 6-for-10 in his last four games.
  • TJ Takis '26 (2-0) started and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings.
  • Relievers Jack Clougherty '23, Henry Tyler '25 and Eddie Taylor '25 didn't allow any runs over the last three innings. Tyler struck out the side in the eighth.
  • Tynan Creagh and Timothy Connor had doubles for St. Lawrence. Clark singled and walked twice.
