Brumbaugh '23 led the Continentals' offense with three goals and three assists

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Rowan Brumbaugh '23 scored three goals and assisted on three more in the Continentals' 16-9 non-conference win against the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons at Oneonta's All College Field on a cold and sometimes snowy Tuesday night, April 18.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (7-6 overall) defeated three of its four non-conference opponents this season.
  • The Red Dragons (7-4) gave up their most goals in a game since March 1.
 

How It Happened

  • Oneonta led 6-5 after one quarter and Owen Vail made it 7-5 with 7:09 left in the second.
  • The Continentals shut out the Red Dragons for the next 22-plus minutes, and Oneonta scored just twice after halftime.
  • Hamilton scored eight straight goals and turned a 7-5 deficit into a 13-7 advantage.
  • Cash Wiley '26 started the run on his goal with 3:06 remaining in the first half.
  • Reece Hickey '26 won the ensuing faceoff and Brumbaugh tied the score 50 seconds later.
  • The Continentals won the next faceoff again and took three shots before Will Heher '25 picked up a ground ball and Hamilton called for a timeout with 1:29 to go. Christian Byrne '24 gave the Continentals the lead for good 20 seconds later on a pass from Torben Wunderle '23.
  • The third quarter was all Hamilton. Matt Mirkovic '23 scored a man-up goal on a feed from Thomas Healy '26 with 12:32 left in the third.
  • The Continentals won the faceoff and Brumbaugh found Tim Sommer '23 for a three-goal cushion 15 seconds later.
  • The Red Dragons called a timeout but it didn't stop Hamilton's momentum. Wunderle passed to Brumbaugh for an 11-7 lead with 10:14 remaining.
  • The Continentals won the faceoff and Wunderle's shot was stopped by the Oneonta goalkeeper. Brumbaugh collected the loose ball and scored with 10:01 to go.
  • Justin Pearl '25 found the back of the net for the 13-7 advantage with 5:14 left.
  • The Red Dragons won the faceoff at the start of the fourth quarter and Connor Gallagher ended their scoring drought 43 seconds later.
  • Oneonta didn't get closer than five goals in the fourth as Hamilton scored the next three and cruised the last half of the quarter.
 

Notes

  • In the third quarter the Continentals held a 20-5 shot advantage, helped force seven Red Dragon turnovers, had 11 ground balls to Oneonta's one and won 5 of 6 faceoffs.
  • Brumbaugh is tied for sixth in the NESCAC with 28 assists.
  • Healy led Hamilton with four goals and added an assist. He's second on the team with 29 goals in 11 games. Healy also recorded a season-high six ground balls.
  • Wunderle chipped in a goal and three helpers. He's tied for fourth in the conference with 62 points, tied for eighth with 37 goals and he's in 10th place with 25 assists.
  • Byrne tallied two goals and has seven in the last three games.
  • Defenseman Cole Johnson '23 scored his first career goal for the Continentals.
  • Mirkovic notched a goal for the second game in a row.
  • Wiley, a long-stick midfielder, scored for the second time this season.
  • Nathanial Field '24 registered the fifth goal and 10 point of his Hamilton career.
  • Hickey won a season-high 17 of 24 faceoffs and claimed a team-best seven ground balls.
  • Jayme Wilde '25 caused two turnovers and is second in the NESCAC with 2.58 per game.
  • Jack Fried '25 made 12 saves for the Continentals.
  • Hamilton scored three goals on six man-up opportunities. The Continentals are second in NCAA Division III at 56.4 percent (22-for-39) on man-up offense.
  • Jamie O'Neil paced the Red Dragons' offense with four points on two goals and two assists.
  • Vail scored three goals and Matthew Krieg and Sam Haita had a goal and two assists apiece.
  • Jesse AlfanoStJohn led the team with five ground balls and Stephen Sommo won 9 of 17 faceoffs.
  • Harrison Boukas stopped 27 shots.
 

Next Game

Hamilton wraps up the regular season with a conference contest at nationally ranked No. 1 Tufts University (13-0, 8-0 NESCAC) on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m.
