Men's lacrosse ends regular season with loss at No. 1 Tufts

Continentals led the undefeated Jumbos 5-4 after the first quarter

MEDFORD, Mass. – Tufts University's Jack Boyden scored four goals and added three assists in the Jumbos' 22-12 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Tufts' Bello Field on Saturday, April 22.
 

Season Update

  • Hamilton (7-7, 4-6 NESCAC) is in eighth place in the conference standings and will wait for the NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Championship seeding release the evening of Wednesday, April 26. The top eight teams advance to the conference championship quarterfinals on Saturday, April 29.
  • The nationally ranked No. 1 Jumbos (14-0, 9-0) are in first place in the NESCAC standings.
 

How It Happened

  • Long-stick midfielder Cash Wiley '26 gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead 2:31 into the first quarter.
  • Hamilton also led 5-4 after two goals late in the first. Rowan Brumbaugh '23 passed to Will Heher '25 for a man-up goal with with 3:19 left, and Thomas Healy '26 scored unassisted with 1:36 remaining.
  • Matt Mirkovic '23 scored while the Continentals were killing a 30-second penalty for interference and tied the score at 6-6 with 11:36 to go in the second quarter. The man-down goal is the team's first this year.
  • Tufts took the lead for good with four straight goals during a four-minute span midway through the second. Hamilton didn't get closer than three goals during the last 39 minutes.
  • The Jumbos led 12-8 at the half and 16-10 after three quarters.
 

Notes

  • Tim Sommer '23 paced the Continentals' offense with four points on two goals and two assists. The multi-assist game is the second of his career.
  • Healy finished with three goals and is second on the team with 32.
  • Brumbaugh chipped in a goal and two assists. He's tied for fifth in the NESCAC with 30 assists and is tied for 10th with 56 points.
  • Mirkovic and Torben Wunderle '23 had a goal and an assist apiece. Both of Mirkovic's career multi-point games are against Tufts.
  • Christian Byrne '24 scored his eighth goal in the last four games.
  • Wiley, who has three goals this season, scored for the second straight game.
  • Jack Fried '25 made 24 saves – the most by a Hamilton goalkeeper since Seamus Fagan '23 had the same number at Colby College on March 26, 2022.
  • Jayme Wilde '25 topped the defense with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • Reece Hickey '26 won 11 faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls.
  • Tommy Swank recorded two goals and three assists for the Jumbos.
  • Charlie Tagliaferri registered two goals and two helpers, and Kurt Bruun and Max Ettinghausen scored three goals apiece.
  • Kyle Adelmann led the defense with six ground balls and five caused turnovers.
  • Mason Kohn won 14 of 18 faceoffs and picked up a dozen ground balls. Parker Merril won 11 of 18 faceoffs and collected 10 ground balls.
  • Conner Garzone stopped nine shots in 56-plus minutes in goal.
  • Tufts held a 67-33 shot advantage and won 25 of 36 faceoffs. The Continentals committed 36 turnovers, including 14 in the third period.
  • Hamilton has scored on 54.5 percent (24-44) of their extra-man opportunities, and entered the weekend ranked second in NCAA Division III in that category.
