Baseball falls to Amherst in NESCAC West Division game, 15-5

Harrast '23 drove in four of the Continentals' five runs and had two hits

CLINTON, N.Y. – Amherst College's Christian Fagnant ended up a home run short of hitting for the cycle and drove in four runs in the Mammoths' 15-5 NESCAC West Division win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, April 16.

Season Update

  • The Continentals (14-11, 5-4 NESCAC West) still won the season series against Amherst by sweeping a doubleheader back on April 2. This game was originally scheduled to be played on March 31.
  • The Mammoths (14-8-1, 4-2) extended their win streak to four games.

How It Happened

  • Amherst scored single runs in the first and second innings and added two more in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
  • Meanwhile, Hamilton left the bases loaded in the second and third innings without scoring.
  • The Mammoths scored another run in the fifth with two outs and without the benefit of a hit.
  • The Continentals got that run back in the bottom of the inning. Jackson Sattinger '24 singled to left-center field and Greg Kopp '25 followed with a base hit through the right side. With one out, Ethan Harrast '23 smacked a hard single to left field that scored Sattinger. Michael Tallarida '26 walked to load the bases, but once again Hamilton stranded three men on base.
  • Amherst broke the game open in the sixth with six runs on four hits and three infield errors for an 11-1 advantage. The Continentals didn't get closer than eight runs over the last three innings.

  • Harrast went 2-for-3 and drove in a career-high four runs for Hamilton.
  • Tallarida was 2-for-2 with three walks. He's hitting .361 with a 1.212 OPS.
  • Mike Altman '23, who entered the game with one hit and two runs batted in for his career, went 2-for-2 with a double, scored two runs and drove in another.

  • Jack Sampedro singled twice and drove in three runs, Luke Padian singled, doubled and plated three more, and Jack Dove had two hits, two walks and scored three times.
  • Naaveen Narayanan started on the mound and didn't allow a hit in four innings, but walked eight and hit a batter.
