CLINTON, N.Y. – Amherst College's Christian Fagnant ended up a home run short of hitting for the cycle and drove in four runs in the Mammoths' 15-5 NESCAC West Division win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, April 16.
Season Update
- The Continentals (14-11, 5-4 NESCAC West) still won the season series against Amherst by sweeping a doubleheader back on April 2. This game was originally scheduled to be played on March 31.
- The Mammoths (14-8-1, 4-2) extended their win streak to four games.
How It Happened
- Amherst scored single runs in the first and second innings and added two more in the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
- Meanwhile, Hamilton left the bases loaded in the second and third innings without scoring.
- The Mammoths scored another run in the fifth with two outs and without the benefit of a hit.
- The Continentals got that run back in the bottom of the inning. Jackson Sattinger '24 singled to left-center field and Greg Kopp '25 followed with a base hit through the right side. With one out, Ethan Harrast '23 smacked a hard single to left field that scored Sattinger. Michael Tallarida '26 walked to load the bases, but once again Hamilton stranded three men on base.
- Amherst broke the game open in the sixth with six runs on four hits and three infield errors for an 11-1 advantage. The Continentals didn't get closer than eight runs over the last three innings.
Notes
- Harrast went 2-for-3 and drove in a career-high four runs for Hamilton.
- Tallarida was 2-for-2 with three walks. He's hitting .361 with a 1.212 OPS.
- Mike Altman '23, who entered the game with one hit and two runs batted in for his career, went 2-for-2 with a double, scored two runs and drove in another.
- Sattinger walked twice and scored twice. He's fifth in the NESCAC with a .500 on-base percentage.
- Phil Bernstein '23 tallied his 108th career hit.
- Kopp has a hit in 16 of his last 17 games and leads the team with a .369 average.
- Taylor Kaufman '26 has hit safely in four of the last five games.
- Tyler McCord had three hits, including a triple, and scored three runs for the Mammoths.
- Jack Sampedro singled twice and drove in three runs, Luke Padian singled, doubled and plated three more, and Jack Dove had two hits, two walks and scored three times.
- Naaveen Narayanan started on the mound and didn't allow a hit in four innings, but walked eight and hit a batter.
Next Game
The Continentals host Utica University for the Jackie Robinson Classic for the first time since 2019 on Tuesday, April 18 at 4:15 p.m. This will be the 33
rd playing of the Classic, and both teams have won the game 16 times since it was first held in 1987.
