MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Wesleyan University's CK Giancola tallied six goals and the Cardinals posted a 19-11 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Wesleyan's Citrin Field on Saturday afternoon.
Season Update
- The Continentals moved to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
- Wesleyan (6-2, 3-1 NESCAC) is ranked 16th in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Top 20 poll.
How It Happened
- Wesleyan owned a 10-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
- Christian Byrne '24 scored the Continentals' first goal 56 seconds into the second frame. Justin Pearl '25 netted back-to-back goals and Torben Wunderle '23 recorded Hamilton's fourth goal of the quarter with 5:19 remaining. Wesleyan held a 14-4 lead at the half.
- The Cardinals scored the first three goals of the third quarter. Charlie Ratner '23 countered with two consecutive goals and Wunderle made it three straight with 3:26 left. The Cardinals scored one more goal with 2:40 to go and headed into the final quarter with an 18-7 advantage.
- The Continentals outscored the Cardinals 4-1 in the fourth. Ratner netted two of those goals while Will Heher '25 and Ben Ryan '26 recorded the final two.
- The Cardinals owned a 57-38 advantage on shots. In the first half Wesleyan had 23 ground balls to Hamilton's 12.
Notes
- Ratner paced the Hamilton offense with a career-high four goals.
- Wunderle contributed two goals and an assist. He leads the team with 27 goals and 39 points.
- Pearl added two goals and an assist. He has registered multiple points in each of the last four games.
- Ryan registered his second goal of the season and the first two assists of his career.
- Byrne finished with a goal and an assist for his second multi-point game this season.
- Pollock and Tim Sommer '23 dished out one assist apiece.
- Heher added his third goal of the season.
- Reece Hickey '26 won 17 of 32 faceoffs and collected a season-high eight ground balls.
- Rowan Brumbaugh '23 and Jake Mair '25 picked up three ground balls apiece.
- Jack Fried '25 tallied 11 saves in 45-plus minutes of action for the Continentals.
- DJ Dixon posted four goals and two assists for the Cardinals.
- Jack Raba passed out a team-best five assists and scored twice.
- Drew Skibniewski made five of his 11 saves in the third quarter.
