Men's lacrosse pulls away from Colby late for 16-11 NESCAC win

Wunderle '23 and Healy '26 led the Continentals' offense with six points apiece

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Torben Wunderle '23 and Thomas Healy '26 recorded six points apiece in the Continentals' 16-11 NESCAC win against the Colby College Mules at Hamilton's Withiam Field on a cold, wet and windy Saturday afternoon in late March.

Season Update

  • The Continentals improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference with their second straight NESCAC win.
  • Colby (1-5, 0-4) lost its fourth straight game.

How It Happened

  • Eleven goals were scored in a wild first quarter.
  • The Mules never led but the score was tied at 4-4 when Colby's Jack Goller found the back of the net with 3:51 left.
  • Rowan Brumbaugh '23 put Hamilton in front to stay with 3:02 remaining, and Wunderle passed to Tim Sommer '23 for another goal just 32 seconds later.
  • The Continentals led 6-5 after the opening 15 minutes.
  • Hamilton's narrow lead fluctuated between one and three goals for most of the rest of the day. The Continentals were up 9-7 at the break and 11-9 after three quarters.
  • The Mules closed to within two goals at 13-11 with 4:17 to go. A Hamilton player was sent off for a one-minute slashing penalty and Colby took advantage of its second man-up opportunity of the afternoon. Max Solmssen scored the goal on a feed from Nolan Zusi.
  • The Continentals won the ensuing faceoff and Justin Pearl '25 restored Hamilton's three-goal cushion with 3:03 left.
  • Reece Hickey '26 won the faceoff again for the Continentals and they ran off the next 80 seconds of game clock.
  • The Mules' clear attempt was unsuccessful as Wunderle forced a turnover, and after two ground ball pickups and a Hamilton timeout, Wunderle scored the clincher on a pass from Brumbaugh with 17.4 seconds remaining.
  • Hickey added the exclamation point to the victory as he scooped up the ground ball on the next faceoff, marched down the field and bounced a hard shot past the goalkeeper for the final margin.

  • Both Wunderle and Healy finished with five goals and an assist.
  • Wunderle leads the Continentals with 25 goals and 36 points. It's the third time this season he has scored a career-high five times. He also caused three turnovers.
