No. 23 women’s lacrosse falls to No. 12 Colby in NESCAC action

Cleary ’25 scores four goals for the Continentals

WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby College's Ally Franz and Annie Eddy recorded three goals apiece and the Mules posted an 11-6 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Colby's Bill Alfond Field on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Season Update
  • The nationally ranked No. 23 Continentals dropped to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the NESCAC.
  • No. 12 Colby improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference with its fourth straight win.  
How It Happened
  • Eddy scored a free-position goal that put the Mules on the board just 58 seconds into the first quarter. 
  • Elizabeth Hennessey put the Mules ahead by two on a goal less than three minutes later. 
  • Aine Cleary '25 slashed Hamilton's deficit in half on a goal with 7:17 left. 
  • Alana King '24 evened the score 1:18 into the second stanza, but Colby buried a pair of shots in the last 4:22 of the quarter for a 4-2 lead at the break. 
  • The Mules struck early in the third quarter while the Continentals were down a player due to a yellow card handed out in the final minute of the first half. 
  • Cleary answered with her second goal of the contest with 12:56 remaining. 
  • Colby scored the next two goals for a 7-3 advantage with 3:08 to go in the third.
  • Cleary closed out the quarter with another goal that pulled the Continentals within three. 
  • The Mules collected their largest lead at 9-4 on two goals in the opening 2:10 of the fourth quarter. 
  • Cleary notched another goal with 11:03 left.
  • Franz netted Colby's 10th goal with 9:35 to go. 
  • Abby Smith '24 scored Hamilton's final goal with 6:09 left in her first game since moving over from the women's hockey team. 
  • Colby rounded out the scoring on a free-position goal with 5:14 remaining.  
Notes
  • Cleary finished with four goals and leads Hamilton with 26 goals and 29 points.
  • King netted her 13th goal of the season.
  • Smith tallied the 11th goal of her career.
  • Caroline Dawson '23 picked up a team-best four ground balls. 
  • Sarah Moore '23 collected three ground balls and two caused turnovers. 
  • Sarah Creamer '26 tallied two ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. 
  • Colby held a 16-5 advantage in draw controls. 
  • Maeve Luparello '23 made six saves for the Continentals. 
  • Franz scored three goals and had one assist.
  • Hennessey ended up with two goals and two assists, and Paige Saudek recorded two goals for the Mules.  
  • Julia Jardina scored her ninth goal and won nine draws.
  • Sarah Hearns made three of her six saves in the fourth quarter.
