No. 23 women's lacrosse eases past Rochester at home, 11-7

Continentals held the Yellowjackets scoreless in the second quarter

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Sarah Creamer '26 posted a season-high four points and the Continentals defeated the University of Rochester Yellowjackets 11-7 in a non-conference game played at Hamilton's Steuben Field on a sunny Tuesday afternoon.
 
Season Update
  • The nationally ranked No. 23 Continentals evened their overall record at 3-3.
  • Rochester's record dipped under .500 at 3-4 with its second consecutive loss.
 
How It Happened
  • The Yellowjackets led 3-2 on a goal by Gracie Giannettino with 16 seconds left in the first quarter.
  • Hamilton's Maddigan Leifer '26 won the ensuing draw control and eventually got the ball to Clarissa Hurley '23. Hurley tied the score on an unassisted goal with 1.7 seconds remaining.
  • The Continentals' defense held Rochester scoreless for the next 23-plus minutes.
  • Emma Toes '25 put Hamilton in the lead for good on a pass from Aine Cleary '25 with 12:47 to go in the second quarter.
  • Julia Fornasar '24 found Leifer for a goal and a 5-3 advantage with 4:51 left in the second. Leifer had just caused a turnover and picked up the ground ball on the other end of the field.
  • Alana King '24 scored a free-position goal a split second before time ran out in the first half and the Continentals took a three-goal cushion into the break.
  • Creamer made it 7-3 on a nice feed from Sarah Stonestreet '25 with 7:42 remaining in the third quarter.
  • The Yellowjackets cut their deficit in half on two goals scored 64 seconds apart, and it was 7-5 with 5:43 to go in the third.
  • Creamer passed to Fornasar for a goal with 4:28 left in the quarter, and Toes scored with an assist from Stonestreet 75 seconds later while Hamilton had the player advantage after a yellow card was issued to a Rochester player.
  • Cleary gave the Continentals their largest lead of six goals at 11-5 on a pass from Creamer with 11:37 remaining in the fourth quarter.
 
Notes
  • Creamer finished with two goals and two assists.
  • Cleary recorded two goals and a helper, and leads the team with 18 goals and 20 points.
  • Toes scored twice and has four points in the last two games.
  • Hurley and Fornasar registered a goal and an assist apiece.
  • Stonestreet was credited with two assists and is second on the team with five.
  • Meghan Lane '24 won five draws and picked up five ground balls. She leads Hamilton in both categories this season.
  • Maeve Luparello '23 started in goal and made five saves. Casey Fiore '24 relieved Luparello at the start of the third quarter and stopped two shots.
  • Emily Geiss kept the Yellowjackets in the game by making 19 saves.
  • Giannettino paced the Rochester offense with two goals and two assists.
  • Emma Little added a goal, an assist and three draws.
  • Abbey Smith scooped up a team-high three ground balls.
  • The Continentals owned big advantages in shots (46-15), ground balls (26-11) and draw controls (14-6). The Yellowjackets also committed 21 turnovers.
  • Hamilton has won 10 straight against Rochester and leads the all-time series, 27-5. The old Liberty League rivals hadn't played each other since 2011. Last year's meeting in Clinton was suspended after one quarter due to a snowstorm and never finished.
 
Next Game
The Continentals are on the road at SUNY Oneonta (1-3 overall) for another non-conference contest on Wednesday, March 22 at 4 p.m.
