No. 23 women's lacrosse defeats Oneonta for third straight win

Continentals dominated the second quarter again

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Aine Cleary '25 posted five points, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the Continentals' 14-10 non-conference win against the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons at Oneonta's Red Dragon Field on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Season Update
  • Nationally ranked No. 23 Hamilton (4-3 overall) has won three in a row.
  • The Red Dragons (1-4) dropped their third straight game.
 
How It Happened
  • The score was tied 4-4 after one quarter, but the Continentals changed that 38 seconds into the second quarter. Alana King '24 won the draw control and Sarah Creamer '26 found Cleary for the goal that put Hamilton up for good.
  • Creamer scored 77 seconds later for a two-goal advantage.
  • Margaret Byrne pulled Oneonta within one with 11:16 left in the second.
  • Cleary fed Emma Toes '25 and restored the Continentals' two goal cushion 75 seconds later.
  • About five minutes later, Cleary took a shot that was turned away by the goalkeeper, but she scored on her next shot on a pass from Clarissa Hurley '23 with 5:13 remaining.
  • Hamilton was awarded a free-position attempt with 1:28 to go. The Continentals pulled out of it and Sydney Klepper '26 scored nine seconds later to make it 9-5.
  • King gave Hamilton a five-goal cushion with 9:11 left in the third quarter, and that led to a timeout by the Red Dragons. Oneonta didn't get closer than four goals the rest of the way.
  • King scored with 5:29 remaining in the third and the Continentals had their largest lead of seven goals at 13-6.
 
Notes
  • Cleary finished with four goals and an assist, and leads the team with 22 goals and 25 points.
  • King boasted three goals and four draw controls. She is second on the team with a dozen goals.
  • Alex Orlando '25 chipped in three goals.
  • Creamer recorded a goal and three assists, and has eight points in the last two games.
  • Hurley was credited with two helpers for her first multi-assist game this season.
  • Marin Ciardiello '26 scored her first goal at Hamilton and added three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
  • Toes collected a career-high four ground balls and Meghan Lane '24 won four draws.
  • Maeve Luparello '23 made two saves in the first quarter and Casey Fiore '24 stopped two shots in the second. Kaitlin Reed '24 turned away a season-high six shots in the second half.
  • Megan Foiles paced the Red Dragons with four points (two goals, two assists) and five draws.
  • Nicolette Lospitalie collected four ground balls and Marissa Evans caused three turnovers.
  • Courtney Gallagher made 11 of her 14 saves in the first half.
  • The Continentals held a 22-10 shot advantage at the break.
  • Hamilton won 16 of 28 draws.
  • The Continentals have won eight consecutive games against Oneonta and lead the all-time series, 36-4.
  • Hamilton has allowed just two goals in the second quarter in its last three games.

The Continentals return to NESCAC play on Saturday, March 25 when they take on No. 12 Colby College (3-3, 1-2 NESCAC) in Waterville, Maine, at noon.
