Baseball extends win streak to four with DH sweep in Florida

Continentals allowed two earned runs against St. Lawrence, lowered team ERA to 3.49

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Hamilton College's Jack Eshleman '25 tallied a career-high 10 strikeouts in the opener and the Continentals swept the St. Lawrence University Saints in a non-conference twinbill at Northeast Regional Park on Monday. 
 
Hamilton improved to 4-6 overall with an 11-1 victory in Game 1 and a 10-2 triumph in the nightcap. Hamilton racked up 14 hits in the first game and drew 11 walks in the second. The Continentals host SUNY Canton for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 23 at Loop Road Athletic Complex. The first pitch is set for 12:30 p.m. 
 
Game One
 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning with a run on singles by Phil Bernstein '23 and Jackson Sattinger '24. 
  • The Continentals plated another run in the third powered by a Bernstein lead-off single. Sattinger scored Bernstein on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. 
  • Hamilton smacked four hits and added a trio of runs in the fourth. Shane Dux '24 and Lucas Herman '26 led off with back-to-back singles and advanced into scoring position on a failed pickoff attempt. Dux scored on a balk and Taylor Kaufman '26 roped a two-out double to right field that scored Herman. Kaufman scored on a Bernstein single through the left side. 
  • St. Lawrence plated its only run in the fifth on two hits and a passed ball. 
  • The Continentals extended their lead with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and four more in the sixth on six hits. Sattinger drove in three of the runs on a homer over the fence in right field in the sixth.  
Notes
  • Sattinger collected his first home run of the season, drew a walk and scored twice. He plated a career-high five runs. 
  • Bernstein went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and scored three times.
  • Greg Kopp '25 drove in one run on two hits. 
  • Ethan Harrast '23, Jack Griffin '24 and Kenny Rix '25 tallied one hit each. 
  • Eshleman earned his third career win on the mound, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and no walks and struck out 10. He carries a 0.79 ERA and leads Hamilton with 19 strikeouts. 
  • Brendan Kastner '23 gave up a single and tallied one strikeout in one inning of relief. 
  • The Continentals outhit the Saints 14-4.   
Game Two
 
How It Happened
  • The Continentals started strong with four runs on two hits in the opening frame. Bernstein led off with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Harrast and eventually stole third. Kopp scored Bernstein on a single to left. Hamilton had bases loaded after two more walks and Matt Kinne '25 was hit by a pitch that forced in Kopp with two outs. Rix nailed a two-out single to left field and plated Dux and Sattinger. 
  • Hamilton added a run in the second on two walks and a single, and another in the fourth on a leadoff double by Harrast and an outfield error. 
  • St. Lawrence found the scoreboard in the bottom half of the fourth on a solo homer by Timothy Connor. 
  • The Continentals extended their lead to 10-1 in the sixth after scoring four runs on a hit, three walks a hit batsman and two errors. Griffin's single to right center scored Harrast and Bernstein, and Sattinger and Griffin crossed home plate on an outfield error. 
  • The Saints scored one more run in their final at-bat in the seventh inning on three consecutive singles with two outs. 
Notes
  • Bernstein singled, scored three runs, drew three walks and stole three bases.
  • Harrast doubled, walked and scored twice. 
  • Kopp walked twice and drove in two runs on a single. 
  • Griffin plated a team-best three runs. 
  • Sattinger walked three times and scored twice.
  • Peter Jones '25 allowed just one run on five hits and two walks and struck out two in six innings.
  • Carter Chambers '25 allowed one run on three hits in one inning of relief. 
  • Conner and Tynan Creagh tallied two hits apiece for the Saints. 
  • Danny Collins led St. Lawrence with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Collins allowed one unearned run on one hit.
  • The Saints held an 8-5 advantage in hits but committed three errors. 
  • Hamilton has won four straight against St. Lawrence.
  • The Saints, who are members of the Liberty League, dropped to 2-3 overall.
