Baseball splits doubleheader with Ohio Northern in Florida

Continentals won the nightcap in an 11-inning pitchers’ duel, 1-0

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Hamilton College's Taylor Kaufman '26 hit a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning and the Continentals posted a 1-0 non-conference win against the Ohio Northern Polar Bears at Northeast Regional Park on Friday afternoon. 
 
Season Update
  • The Continentals (1-6 overall) dropped the seven-inning opener 11-0 before they recorded their first win this season in dramatic fashion. Hamilton is back in action with a single nine-inning non-conference game against Keystone College on Sunday, March 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Northeast Regional Park.

How It Happened
  • The Polar Bears struck early with one run on two hits in the first inning.
  • Ohio Northern added five runs in the second on four singles and three walks. The Polar Bears stayed hot with one run in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth and sixth innings. 
  • The Polar Bears finished with 11 hits while the Continentals had three singles. 
Notes
  • Hamilton's Ethan Harrast '23, Jack Griffin '24 and Carter Chambers '25 tallied one hit each. 
  • Logan Stevens led Ohio Northern with four hits, including a double and a triple, and four runs batted in.
  • Corey McMann recorded three hits and drove in two runs.
  • Tim Knapschaefer pitched six scoreless innings and struck out 12 for the Polar Bears.

How It Happened
  • Harrast led off the 11th with a hard-hit single to third base and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Greg Kopp '25. Jackson Sattinger '24 was intentionally walked and Shane Dux '24 loaded the bases with a single through the right side. Kaufman's single through the left side plated Harrast and finally ended the game. 
  • Hamilton recorded eight hits to Ohio Northern's five. 
Notes
  • Harrast and Kaufman led Hamilton with two hits apiece. One of Harrast's hits was a double.
  • Aidan Regan '24 allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out seven in 6.2 scoreless innings. 
  • Henry Boehm '25 struck out two in 1.2 perfect innings.
  • Ed Connolly '23 allowed one base runner in 1.1 innings in relief.
  • Michael Ghiorsi '23 pitched the last 1.1 innings and recorded his first win with the Continentals. He has allowed four hits and no earned runs in nine innings this season.
  • Joey Kennedy led the Polar Bears with two hits.
  • Ohio Northern, a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) moved to 8-5 overall.
