GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Hamilton College Continentals earned all-America honors and set a team record in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay in the 2023 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Thursday.
Jade Matthias '26, Ashlyn Blessey '26, Caroline Shen '24 and
Sam Karlson '23 are second team all-Americans after they finished fourth in the consolation final and 12
th overall in the 200 free relay. They ended up in 13
th place after the morning's preliminary heats with a time of 1:34.74. The quartet broke their own team record by nearly a half-second in 1:34.22 in the evening's finals.
Matthias led off the relay with a 50 split time of 23.91 seconds. Blessey followed in 23.73 seconds and Shen posted a split time of 23.62 seconds. Karlson, who holds the team record and finished 18
th in the 50 free at the championships on Wednesday, anchored the relay with a split time of 22.96 seconds.
Karlson is a two-time all-American as she previously earned the honor for the 100 free in 2022. On Thursday she also competed in the 200 free and landed in 31
st place in prelims with a time of 1:53.66.
The women are off until the fourth and final day on Saturday, March 18 when Karlson competes in the 100 free and the same foursome swims in the 400 free relay. Preliminary heats begin at 10 a.m. and the finals start at 6 p.m.
