TROY, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Rowan Brumbaugh '23 tied career highs with five goals and seven points in the Continentals' 15-12 non-conference win against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Engineers at RPI's East Campus Athletic Village Stadium on Wednesday.
Season Update
- Hamilton (2-2 overall) is averaging more than 15 goals per game through its four games.
- The Engineers (3-4), who are receiving votes in this week's U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Top 20 poll, lost their third straight game.
How It Happened
- The Continentals trailed 3-1 midway through the first quarter. An unassisted goal by Thomas Healy '26 started an 8-0 run and Hamilton led for the last 49 minutes.
- The Continentals held RPI scoreless for more than 25 minutes from the first quarter until early in the third.
- Tim Sommer '23 tied the score with 4:41 left in the first, and Charlie Ratner '23 found Brumbaugh for the go-ahead goal 40 seconds later.
- Torben Wunderle '23 scored on a pass from Justin Pearl '25 with 1:55 remaining and Hamilton owned a 5-3 advantage after the opening 15 minutes.
- The Continentals' defense didn't allow a goal in the second quarter. Ratner made it 6-3 on a feed from Troy Pollock '25 with 4:18 to go, and Zach Lucchini '25 passed to Brumbaugh for another goal 46 seconds later.
- Brumbaugh set up Wunderle for a man-up goal with 30 seconds left and Hamilton went into the break with an 8-3 lead.
- Brumbaugh gave the Continentals their largest lead of six goals with an unassisted tally 1:52 into the third quarter.
- The Engineers scored five times during a span of seven minutes, 23 seconds and pulled within one at 9-8 with 5:33 remaining in the third.
- Hamilton responded with four in a row and was up by at least three goals the rest of the way. Wunderle scored with 4:07 to go, Christian Byrne '24 got on the scoresheet with 2:20 left, and Pollock made it 12-8 with 29 seconds remaining.
- Brumbaugh gave the Continentals a five-goal cushion at 13-8 with 11:25 to go.

- Joseph Perry stopped 10 shots for the Engineers.
- RPI held the advantage in shots (51-37), ground balls (47-30) and faceoffs (28-3), but the Engineers were 0-for-3 on extra-man opportunities.
- The Continentals recorded their second win in the last 25 meetings with RPI.
