Baseball edged twice by Concordia in Florida

Bernstein ’23 smacked three hits for the Continentals in non-conference doubleheader

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Hamilton College Continentals fell twice to the Concordia College (Minn.) Cobbers in a non-conference twinbill at Northeast Regional Park on Wednesday. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (0-5 overall) will be back in action with another non-conference doubleheader against Ohio Northern University on Friday, March 17 starting at 11:45 a.m. at Northeast Regional Park. 
 
Game One
 
How It Happened
  • Concordia scored all four runs in the top of the second on three hits. 
  • Hamilton plated its lone run in the fifth inning. Jackson Johns '24 was hit by a pitch with two outs and Matt Kinne '25 drove him home on a double deep down the left field line. 
  • Henry Boehm '25 struck out the side in the seventh and was part of five scoreless innings of relief for the Continentals. 
Notes
  • Phil Bernstein '23, Greg Kopp '25 and Jack Griffin 24 added singles.
  • Kinne recorded his first extra-base hit of the season.   
  • Jay Schlaefer '23 and Boehm collected three strikeouts apiece. 
  • Eddie Taylor '25 struck out two batters in 2.2 innings of one-hit pitching. 
  • Andy Gravdahl drove in a team-best two runs on two hits for the Cobbers.
  • Jake Christianson tallied a pair of hits while Matt Gruber and Carter Mulcahy had one apiece. 
  • Jacoby Nold pitched a complete game allowing one run on four hits. 

Game Two
 
How It Happened 
  • The Cobbers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with one run on one hit and one Hamilton error. 
  • Hamilton countered with two runs on two hits in the top half of the fifth. Jackson Sattinger '24 led off with a double to right center and Shane Dux '24 drew a walk. Sattinger and Dux were both in scoring position after a double steal. With two outs, Schlaefer smacked a hard-hit single up the middle to score Sattinger and Dux. 
  • Concordia took a 4-2 lead with a big sixth inning with three runs on two hits and one costly error. 
  • Kenny Rix '25 led off the top of the seventh with a double to left center. Schlaefer reached on a fielder's choice but the Cobbers threw out Rix at third base. Bernstein nailed a single down the right field line that put runners at the corners. Harrast kept it going with a single to left field that scored Schlaefer, but one of the Continentals was thrown out trying to go from first to third. Concordia ended the Continentals' rally with its seventh strikeout of the game.  
Notes
  • Bernstein led Hamilton with two singles. He tops the team with nine hits and a .450 batting average in Florida. 
  • Schlaefer plated a team-best two runs. 
  • Kopp added a single. 
  • Gravdahl, Gruber, Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe, Christianson, Caiden Kjelstrom and Justin Kloster recorded hits for the Cobbers. 
  • Max Boran earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. Gruber picked up the save. 
  • Concordia, a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) improved to 5-7 overall.
