CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College jumped out to a 4-1 lead less than 10 minutes into the first quarter and the Continentals went on to a 16-9 non-conference win against the Roger Williams University Hawks at Hamilton's Steuben Field on a cold and wet Monday afternoon.
Season Update
- The nationally ranked No. 22 Continentals picked up their first win this season after two narrow setbacks against NESCAC opponents.
- Roger Williams, a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference, dropped to 3-2 overall.
How It Happened
- Aine Cleary '25 gave Hamilton a 2-0 lead with two goals less than four minutes into the first quarter.
- After Brooke McErlain cut the Hawks' deficit in half, Alana King '24 shoveled a shot across the goal line and made it 3-1. Emma Toes '25 followed with a goal for the Continentals and it was 4-1 with 5:13 left in the first.
- Ryleigh Cavanaugh pulled Roger Williams within 4-2 with 4:09 remaining, and that's how the quarter ended.
- Sydney Klepper '26, who assisted on King's goal, scored 3:35 into the second quarter. Olivia Chiota '24 gave Hamilton a four-goal cushion with 6:57 to go.
- Campbell Haller scored for the Hawks just 50 seconds later, but Maddigan Leifer '26 restored the Continentals' four-goal lead as she finished off a successful clear and then continued all the way to the net with 4:59 left.
- Clarissa Hurley '23 put Hamilton up by five for the first time at 8-3 on an unassisted goal with 1:54 remaining, and the Continentals went into the break with that five-goal lead.
- King made it 9-3 just over two minutes into the third quarter, and Roger Williams didn't get closer than five goals the rest of the way. Hamilton was up 12-5 after three.

- King finished with two goals, a career-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Klepper ended up with two goals, an assist and two caused turnovers.
- Sarah Stonestreet '25 helped the offense with a goal and two assists.
- Cleary and Sarah Creamer '26 chipped in two goals apiece. Creamer is second on the team with five.
- Chiota collected three ground balls.
- Maeve Luparello '23, Casey Fiore '24 and Kaitlin Reed '24 combined to make six saves.
- McErlain paced the Hawks with five points on three goals and two assists.
- Mandy Beck contributed a goal, two assists and three ground balls.
- Cavanaugh won 11 draw controls as Roger Williams owned a 23-6 advantage in draws.
- Abby Cunningham picked up three ground balls and caused three turnovers.
- Caroline Roach started in goal and made two stops in the first half. Zoey Cormican turned away three shots in the second half in relief of Roach.
- The Continentals' ride created all sorts of problems for the Hawks, who committed 21 turnovers and were successful on just 10 of 16 clear attempts.
- Hamilton had 24 ground balls to Roger Williams' 11.
