JAN PHYL VILLAGE, Fla. –Hamilton College racked up 15 hits in its win against Beloit College and the Continentals split a pair of non-conference games at Auburndale Softball Complex in Jan Phyl Village, Fla., on Monday.
Season Update
- Hamilton (1-3 overall) lost 9-5 against SUNY New Paltz before the Continentals posted a 13-4 win against Beloit. Hamilton takes on Smith College and Benedictine University on Thursday, March 16 at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
New Paltz
How It Happened
- Hawks struck first with four runs on four hits in the second inning. Jackie Rometo smacked a three-run home run and Kelsey O'Brien followed with a solo shot.
- New Paltz plated one run in the third and another in the fifth.
- Hamilton cut its deficit to 5-3 in the bottom half of the fourth on four hits. Katelyn McGivney '23 singled to shortstop and advanced to second on a single by Emma Tanksy '25. Alison Zorn '26 roped a double to left center that plated McGivney and Tansky. Natalie Beebe '24 drove Zorn home on a double to right center.
- New Paltz scored three more runs in the seventh on four hits for a 9-3 advantage.
- The Continentals countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Pinch-hitter Charlie Quinn '25 singled up the middle and was replaced by pinch-runner Sofia Santana '26. Santana advanced to scoring position on a wild pitch and McGivney moved Santana to third on a bunt single. Zorn drove in Santana and McGivney on a single to right field.

- New Paltz, a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference, improved its overall record to 5-2.
- McGivney and Tansky combined for six of Hamilton's 10 hits with three apiece.

How It Happened
- Hamilton took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the second on three hits. Samantha Smith '23 led off with a single through the left side and stole second base. Quinn singled to third base and advanced to second after Smith was caught attempting to steal third. Mikayla Worzel '23 advanced Quinn to third on a groundout and Hadley Rogers '26 collected her first collegiate hit with a double to deep right center that scored Quinn.
- The Continentals added a pair of runs in the third. Zorn singled up the middle and Ella Heftved '25 advanced Zorn on a single through the left side. Smith slapped a double to left center that scored Zorn and Heftved.
- Hamilton had a hot fourth inning with three runs on three hits for a 6-0 cushion. Worzel led off with a homer over the fence in right center. Beebe reached first on a Beloit fielding error. Alexis Mayer '26 pinch ran for Beebe and stole second. McGivney singled through the left side and Zorn smacked a double to left center that drove in Mayer and McGivney.
- The Hawks tacked on two runs on three hits in the bottom half of the inning. Tansky entered the circle with the bases loaded and nobody out and ended Beloit's rally by striking out three consecutive batters.
- Hamilton plated two more runs in the fifth on a two-run single up the middle by Tansky.
- Beloit countered with two unearned runs on two hits in the bottom half.
- The Continentals had their best inning in the seventh with five runs on three hits. Smith led off with a walk and Quinn singled to left field. Worzel placed Smith and Quinn in scoring position on a groundout and Taylor Santulli '25 whacked a double through the left side that brought the pair home. Tansky forced a walk and McGivney kept her bat hot with a single up the middle that loaded the bases. Jordan Merklin '26 plated her first collegiate run on a groundout to first that scored Santulli. The inning ended with McGivney and Tansky scoring after a throwing error by the Hawks.
