Baseball drops opener, Bernstein ’23 a triple short of cycle

Seven of Continentals’ eight hits went for extra bases in 9-4 setback

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Loras College broke a 1-1 tie with six runs in the fifth inning and the Duhawks posted a 9-4 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Northeast Regional Park on Sunday afternoon. 
 
How It Happened
  • Loras took the lead in the fourth inning on a home run to left center by Daniel Rogers. 
  • The Continentals plated their first run in the fifth. Ethan Harrast '23 reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a triple to deep left center by Jackson Sattinger '24. 
  • The Duhawks took the lead for good with six runs on six hits in the bottom of the inning. 
  • Hamilton had its best inning in the sixth powered by a Shane Dux '24 two-run homer to left field. Dux drove in Greg Kopp '25 who led off with a double to deep left center. 
  • Loras countered with two runs in their half of the sixth. 
  • The Continentals scored one more run in the seventh on a solo homer to left field by Bernstein. 
  • Hamilton's eight hits included four doubles, one triple and two home runs. 
  • Loras banged out nine hits. 
Notes
  • Hamilton was playing its 2023 season opener. 
  • Loras, a member of the American Rivers Conference improved its overall record to 6-3. 
  • Bernstein tallied the sixth homer of his career.
  • Dux knocked his second career homer and drove in a team-best two runs. 
  • Sattinger nailed a double and his second career triple.
  • Harrast and Kopp contributed one hit apiece. 
  • Carlos Castillo pitched two hitless innings of relief in his first collegiate appearance.
  • Ryan Wohlers and Rogers led Loras with two hits apiece. 
  • Max McCallum, Max Cullen and Rogers all drove in two runs for the Duhawks. 
  • Davis Pasco allowed three runs on six hits and walked four in six innings for Loras. He struck out seven and picked up the win.

  • The Continentals are back in action on Monday, March 13 against Springfield College at 3:30 p.m. and Oswego State at 7:15 p.m. at Northeast Regional Park.
