Men's hockey edges Bowdoin for third straight NESCAC victory

Grant '24 and the Continentals have allowed a total of four goals in the last four games

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Jack Grant '24 made 25 saves and helped lead the surging Continentals to a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Saturday afternoon.

Season Update
The Continentals (11-8-1, 9-4-1 NESCAC) extended their conference win streak to three and swept the two-game season series against Bowdoin. The Polar Bears (11-7-2, 5-7-2) are winless in their last four NESCAC contests.

How It Happened
  • Hamilton got off to a fast start with two goals in the opening 11-plus minutes. Sam MacBean '23 took a shot from the point that was stopped by goaltender Alex Kozic, but the rebound kicked out to Max Bulawka '26 in the left faceoff circle and he fired the puck into the back of the net 2:11 into the period.
  • The Continentals added a power-play goal at 11:06 of the first when Fred Allaire '23 deflected a shot taken by Nick Hawkins '23 past Kozic.
  • After a scoreless second period, Hamilton was within five minutes of a shutout, but one of the Continentals was sent to the penalty box for roughing with 4:51 left in the third.
  • Bowdoin pulled Kozic for an extra skater and a 6-on-4 advantage. The Polar Bears capitalized on their chance just nine seconds into the power play on a goal by Albert Washco. Aidan Lyons and Bobby Pearl had the assists.
  • Bowdoin's comeback chances were severely hampered by a slashing penalty on the Polar Bears with 3:29 remaining. Bowdoin managed two short-handed chances and Grant had to make a save on one of the shots.
  • Kozic went back to the bench with about 1:15 to go and the Polar Bears made one last attempt to tie the score. Grant made the save on a shot by Gabe Shipper with about 45 seconds left and Bowdoin didn't threaten again.

Notes
  • Grant allowed one goal for his fourth straight start. After his 6-0 shutout against the Polar Bears in early January, his scoreless streak against Bowdoin ended at 115 minutes, 18 seconds. Grant is second in the NESCAC with a 1.78 goals against average and first with a .941 save percentage.
  • Allaire scored a goal for the second time in as many days and is tied for the team lead with six. He also won 14 of 24 faceoffs.
  • Bulawka scored his fifth goal and won 10 of 13 faceoffs. Hamilton won 37 of 60 as a team.
  • Hawkins and James Philpott '25 registered their ninth assists this season. Philpott has an assist in three consecutive games.
  • Alex Danis '26 collected his sixth helper and eight point.
  • MacBean recorded his fifth career point with the Continentals.
  • Hamilton was 1-for-4 on the power play and the Polar Bears were 1-for-3.
  • Kozic finished with 26 stops including 12 in the first period.
