Men's hockey explodes for eight goals in win over Conn. College

Continentals have a four-game win streak and are unbeaten in their last five NESCAC contests

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Fred Allaire '23 scored twice and the Continentals rallied for an 8-5 NESCAC win against the Connecticut College Camels at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday night.
 
Season Update
The Continentals (12-8-1, 10-4-1 NESCAC) extended their unbeaten streak to five games. Conn. College (5-16-0, 2-13) had won its previous three contests.
 
How It Happened
  • John Russo gave the Camels a 5-4 lead with his goal just 17 seconds into the third period.
  • Allaire tied the score on the only power-play goal of the night with 8:45 left when he deflected a shot by Ben Zimmerman '26.
  • Jackson Krock '26 put Hamilton in the lead for good with 6:44 remaining.
  • Conn. College pulled its goaltender for an extra skater with about 90 seconds to go, but Nick Hawkins '23 found the empty net for a 7-5 advantage with 1:21 to go.
  • James Philpott '25 added another empty-net goal and clinched the victory with 4.1 seconds remaining.
  • The Camels grabbed an early 2-0 lead on a goal by Cole Eichler 53 seconds into the first period and another by John Harrington at 5:07 when Harrington's centering pass went in off a Hamilton defender.
  • The Continentals answered with three consecutive goals and took a 3-2 edge into the first intermission. Allaire scored unassisted at 7:25, Max Bulawka '26 tied it 10:20 into the first and Grisha Gotovets '25 scored on a fantastic individual effort with 5:54 to go.
  • Devan Newhook drew Conn. College even 2:06 into the second period as Eichler picked up the assist.
  • Cade Groton '23 put Hamilton back in front at 3:53 of the second on assists from Zimmerman and Hawkins.
  • Eichler tied it at 4-4 at 5:17 of the period on a feed from Rocco Testa-Basi.
 
Notes
  • Allaire added an assist for the first three-point game of his career with the Continentals. He also won 15 of 22 faceoffs.
  • Gotovets had a goal and two helpers for his first three-point game at Hamilton.
  • Hawkins, Philpott, Bulawka and Krock had a goal and an assist each.
  • Zimmerman had two assists and leads the team with 14. He also has a team-high 20 points.
  • Bulawka won 10 of 13 faceoffs as the Continentals won 36 of 57 draws as a team.
  • Hamilton's Jack Grant '24 made 22 saves and won his fourth straight start.
  • Eichler led the Camels' offense with two goals and an assist.
  • Cam Fernandez stopped 25 shots, including 15 in the second period, for Conn. College.
  • The Continentals were 1-for-3 on the power play and killed both of their penalties.
  • The eight goals are the most by the Continentals since a 9-2 win against Conn. College on Feb. 13, 2016.
 
Next Game
Hamilton will honor its eight seniors prior to the Continentals' NESCAC home game against Tufts University (7-13-1, 4-10-1) on Saturday, Feb. 11. The first puck drops at 3 p.m.
