Women’s basketball bested by Bowdoin, Sehring ’23 scores 17

Senior forward posted her 10th double-double of the season for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Bowdoin College's Sydney Jones scored 23 points and the Polar Bears captured a 61-51 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday evening. 
 
How It Happened
  • Emma Sehring '23 scored the game's first three points at the free-throw line in the opening minute of the first quarter. 
  • Bowdoin countered with a 14-3 run for a 14-6 advantage with 3:13 remaining in the first. 
  • Emily Hall '24 closed out the quarter with a last-second jumper and slashed Hamilton's deficit to six points at 16-10. 
  • The Polar Bears were 3 of 5 from 3-point range in the second quarter and held a 33-23 lead at the break. 
  • Courtney Shay '24 opened the third quarter with a 3-ball that cut the Continentals' deficit to seven points with 9:14 left. 
  • Bowdoin stretched its lead to 42-30 with 5:35 to go, but Hamilton answered with a 6-1 spurt and trailed 43-36 heading into the final quarter. 
  • Tori Beck started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer for the Polar Bears and Maria Mercado Rengel '24 answered with a 3-pointer on the other end. 
  • Hall and Sehring made baskets and pulled the Continentals within a single possession at 46-43 with 6:06 remaining. 
  • The Polar Bears responded with a 10-0 run for a commanding 56-43 lead with 3:31 to go. 
  • Taylor Lambo '26 put Hamilton within seven at 56-49 on a classic and-1 play with 1:03 left, but Bowdoin finished 5-for-6 at the line and held off the Continentals down the stretch.
  • Hamilton shot 32.1 percent (17-53) from the floor and 68.4 percent (13-19) at the line. 
  • Bowdoin shot 31.3 percent (20-64) from the floor, including 8 of 23 from beyond the arc, and 86.7 percent (13-15) at the stripe. 
  • Bowdoin owned a 46-39 advantage on the glass and collected 15 fast-break points. 
  • Hamilton committed 16 turnovers that turned into 11 Polar Bear points. 
Notes
  • Hamilton moved to 11-10 overall and 4-5 in the NESCAC. 
  • Bowdoin improved to 15-8 and 4-5 in the conference. 
  • Sehring recorded a team-best 17 points and 15 rebounds.
  • Shay collected all nine of her points from 3-point range on 3 of 6 shooting.
  • Hall and Lambo both tallied seven points apiece and Lambo blocked three shots. 
  • Mercado Rengel registered seven points and finished 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. 
  • Jones shot 3 of 8 from the 3-point line and collected a team-best three steals. 
  • Sela Kay tallied 12 points for the Polar Bears. 
  • Annie Boasberg led Bowdoin on the glass with 11 boards.

  • Hamilton hosts Colby College (8-13, 3-6) on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. Hamilton will honor Olivia Davis '23, Lauren Kuster '23 and Sehring during a Senior Day ceremony prior to tipoff.
