Women’s basketball cruises past Colby in regular season finale

Four Continentals scored in double figures in balanced offensive attack

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College scored the first 11 points and the Continentals led the whole way in their 70-53 NESCAC win over the Colby College Mules at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon.
 
How It Happened
  • The Continentals' game-opening run covered the first four minutes. Emma Sehring '23, Courtney Shay '24, Olivia Davis '23 and Taylor Lambo '26 all scored during the spurt. 
  • Maria Mercado Rengel '24 gave the Continentals a 17-5 lead on a trip to the line that ended the first quarter. 
  • Carter McGloon opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer and Hunter Bray hit a jumper that cut Colby's deficit to seven points at 17-10 with 8:56 left. 
  • Davis gathered an offensive board and made a layup for a 29-16 Hamilton advantage with 4:54 remaining. 
  • Shay drained a 3-ball and Sehring netted a layup for a 16-point cushion at 34-18 with 2:36 left. 
  • An offensive rebound and putback by Mercado Rengel put the Continentals up 38-20 at the break. 
  • The Mules started the third quarter with a 5-0 spurt and pulled within 13 with 6:36 left. 
  • Colby's Lydia Mordarski cut the Mules' deficit to 10 points at 40-30 after a jumper in the paint with 5:35 to go. 
  • The Continentals answered with an 8-2 run for a 48-32 lead with 2:22 to go. Emily Hall '24 closed out the quarter with a pair of shots at the line for a 52-37 advantage. 
  • Althea Hill '26 drained back-to-back 3-pointers in the first minute of the fourth quarter and gave Hamilton its largest lead at 58-37.
  • The Continentals led by double digits the rest of the way.  
  • Hamilton held a 45-29 advantage on the glass and had 15 second-chance points to Colby's 0.  
Notes
  • Hamilton improved to 12-10 overall and 5-5 in the NESCAC. The Continentals are in a four-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings. 
  • Colby (8-14, 3-7 NESCAC) dropped its fourth straight contest.
  • Hamilton's three seniors were honored prior to the game.
  • Hall recorded 11 points and three assists. 
  • Davis tallied a career-high 11 points and added two blocks. 
  • Hill shot 4 of 8 from the floor including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc for 11 points.
  • Sehring scored 10 points and handed out three assists. 
  • Mercado Rengel went 4-for-4 at the charity stripe and tallied nine points.
  • Lambo registered eight points and a team-best 10 boards and four steals. 
  • Mordarski paced Colby with 25 points and three steals. 
  • McGloon and Caroline Smith scored eight points apiece.
Next Game
  • Hamilton will play an opponent to be determined on Saturday, Feb. 18 in the NESCAC championship quarterfinals.
