No. 6 women's hockey settles for 1-1 NESCAC tie with Trinity

Testa '26 scored her first career goal for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College dominated the last two periods and overtime but the Trinity College Bantams escaped with a 1-1 NESCAC tie against the Continentals inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Season Update

  • The sixth-ranked Continentals (3-2-1, 1-2-1 NESCAC) are unbeaten in their last four games as their opponents have scored four goals during that stretch.
  • Trinity (3-3-1, 0-3-1) picked up their first point in conference play this season.

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first period, Hamilton went in front 6:43 into the second. A centering pass by Emily Ferguson '24 caromed off one of the Bantams in the low slot all the way out to the point. Sophia Testa '26 stepped into it and her wrist shot beat Hannah Leclair high on the glove side.
  • The Continentals outshot Trinity 15-3 in the second period and 8-4 in the third. Despite those numbers, the Bantams tied the score with 6:48 left in regulation. Trinity won a neutral-zone faceoff and the puck ended up on the stick of Marta Mazzocchi. She skated into the left faceoff circle and her left-handed wrist shot went over the left shoulder of Teagan Brown '27 and into the back of the net.
  • Hamilton controlled the five-minute overtime period as the Continentals had seven shot attempts including five on goal that Leclair turned away. The Bantams didn't have the puck much and finished with no shots in the extra session.

Notes

  • Testa's goal was the first of the defender's Hamilton career.
  • Ferguson collected her ninth career assist.
  • Abby Smith '24, who has at least one point in three straight games, is second on the team with six.
  • Brown made seven of her 13 saves in the first period. Brown has a 1.58 goals against average and .919 save percentage in five starts.
  • Lydia Bullock '26 won 7 of 11 faceoffs for the Continentals.
  • Leclair turned away 33 shots.
  • Hamilton had the game's lone power play early in the first period.
  • The Continentals are 7-0-1 in their last eight meetings with Trinity.
