CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College scored two goals in 15 seconds late in the third period and the Continentals pulled out a 3-1 NESCAC win against the Trinity College Bantams inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday, Dec. 1.
Season Update
- The sixth-ranked Continentals (3-2, 1-2 NESCAC) won their third straight game after opening the season with a pair of 2-1 losses against No. 2 Amherst College.
- Trinity (3-3, 0-3), which had won its previous three games, is receiving votes in this week's USCHO.com Division III Top 15 poll.
How It Happened
- It seemed as if the teams were destined to go to overtime tied at 0-0 as the goaltenders battled it out, but Hamilton finally broke the ice with 3:38 left in the third period. Ava Romano '27 caused a turnover in the high slot in the Continentals' defensive zone and passed the puck to Claire McGennis '24 along the right-side boards in front of the teams' benches. McGennis flew towards the goal mostly unimpeded and ripped a wrist shot that beat Hannah Leclair low on the glove side.
- Hamilton's Bobbi Roca '24 sent the puck deep into the Trinity zone shortly after the ensuing faceoff. Lydia Bullock '26 delivered a centering pass from behind the net to Roca for a one-timer from the slot. Roca's shot was turned aside to Bullock below the right faceoff circle and she fired the puck into the scrum in the crease. The puck popped out to Abby Smith '24 near the left post. Smith switched it from her backhand to her forehand and deposited it into the back of the net with 3:23 remaining.
- One of the Continentals was sent to the penalty box for tripping with 1:54 to go and, after a timeout, the Bantams pulled Leclair for a two-skater advantage. Jelani Adorno cut Trinity's deficit in half on a shot from the point with 1:01 left.
- The Bantams won the next faceoff and quickly moved the puck into their offensive zone. Leclair skated back to the bench for the 6-on-5 advantage as Trinity frantically tried to get the tying goal. One of the Bantams got possession of the puck along the end boards, turned and passed it towards the point. The puck sailed past everyone through neutral ice and trickled across the goal line into the empty net with 42.5 seconds remaining. Bullock, who had taken the faceoff for Hamilton, was credited with the goal as the last player who touched the puck for the Continentals.
