- Wesleyan (1-2) split two games with Connecticut College last weekend.
How It Happened
- Hamilton scored the lone goal of the first period with 1:44 left. Sami Quackenbush '24 took a wrist shot from above the left faceoff circle and Smith tipped the puck past the goaltender.
- The teams combined to score four goals in the second period. Caroline Kee drew the Cardinals even 8:22 into the period.
- The Continentals moved back in front 2:09 later. Smith hit the right post with a shot from close range and Bobbi Roca '24 was there to clean up the rebound on a backhander from the edge of the left side of the crease.
- Christina Tournas tied the score again for Wesleyan on a goal with 4:30 remaining in the second.
- Claire McGennis '24 put Hamilton in the lead for good with 3:16 to go in the period. McGennis received a pass from Quackenbush along the right-side boards near the red line and flew into the attacking zone without much interference. She skated through the right faceoff circle and unleashed a wrist shot from the slot that beat the goaltender top shelf.
- Smith added some insurance at 9:35 of the third period while the Continentals were on the power play. Quackenbush had a pass go off her stick and into the neutral zone, but she hustled, tracked down the puck and moved it to Smith while Quackenbush fell to the ice. Smith swiftly skated back into the offensive zone and scored on a wrist shot from left of the dot in the right faceoff circle.
- The Cardinals had their chances to cut into Hamilton's lead late in the third. Wesleyan earned a power-play chance with 6:19 left and pulled its goaltender for an extra skater with 1:46 remaining.
