Men’s hockey defeats Potsdam for third straight win, 3-1

Continentals face No. 14 Trine in North Country Tournament on Sunday

CANTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Max Bulawka '26 scored the go-ahead goal with two minutes remaining in the third period and the Continentals defeated SUNY Potsdam 3-1 in SUNY Canton's North Country Tournament at CARC-Roos House on Saturday, Nov. 25.

Season Update
  • Hamilton (3-0 overall) has started with three straight wins for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
  • SUNY Potsdam (1-6), which is a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference, dropped its fifth straight contest.
How It Happened
  • The Continentals applied pressure to keep the puck in their offensive zone late in the third period. Jeremy Smith '24 slung a pass towards the crease and Luke Tchor '27 attempted to sneak a shot by Potsdam's Lenny Perno but it was stopped. Bulawka stayed active in the crease for the rebound and hit the back of the net from the left side for a 2-1 lead.
  • 17 seconds later, the Bears traded Perno for an extra skater, but the Continentals extended their lead on a short-handed goal into the empty net by Ben Zimmerman '26 with 1:01 left.
  • Hamilton opened the scoring 6:26 into the first period. James Philpott '25 worked the puck up ice and tapped it over to Smith who passed it over to Jackson Krock '26 in the neutral zone. Krock delivered the package to the front door step after taking on a defender and sending the puck off the left post.
  • Potsdam knotted the score 2:17 into the second period. The Bears' Mathieu Parent earned the faceoff win and Jakub Hall slipped the puck under Charlie Archer '25.
Notes
  • Krock and Bulawka scored their first goals of the season.
  • Zimmerman registered his second goal of the season and led the Continentals with 14 faceoff wins. He has at least one point in every game this season.
  • Smith recorded the first multi-assist game of his career.
  • Philpott dished out his second assist of the season.
  • Tchor passed out his first collegiate assist.
  • Archer tallied 20 saves with 10 stops in the third period. He has allowed one goal in two starts this season.
  • Jakub Hall netted his second career goal for Potsdam.
  • Perno turned away 36 shots including 17 in the second period.
  • Hamilton owned a 39-21 shot advantage.
  • The Continentals and Bears were both 0-for-2 on the power play.
