Neault '25 lifts men's hockey to overtime win over Canton, 5-4

Philpott '25 finished with two goals and an assist for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's William Neault '25 scored 1:07 into the sudden-victory overtime period and the Continentals rallied for a wild 5-4 non-conference win over the SUNY Canton Kangaroos inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Season Update

  • The Continentals improved to 2-0 overall with their second win in as many nights.
  • Canton remained winless as the Roos dropped to 0-7 on the season.

How It Happened

  • Ben Zimmerman '26 won an offensive zone faceoff back to Neault near the blue line. With the teams skating 3-on-3, he maneuvered with the puck from the right circle into the slot where his wrist shot found the back of the net.
  • Luke Tchor '27 sent the game to overtime on his goal with 41.2 seconds left in the third period. James Philpott '25 and Jackson Krock '26 had the assists. Hamilton had pulled its goaltender for an extra skater about 30 seconds earlier.
  • Tchor's goal capped a wild third period as the teams combined to score five goals. Nic Herringer tied the score at 2-2 with an unassisted goal for the Roos 2:52 into the period. Niko Schoner gave Canton its first lead on his goal 1:47 later.
  • The Continentals drew even just as their power play ended with 4:16 remaining. Philpott scored the goal on assists from Devon de Vries '27 and Zimmerman.
  • Schoner put the Roos back in front with 2:09 to go on his second goal of the period. Jordan Prepszl and Brendan Morrow had the helpers.
  • After a scoreless first period, Philpott notched the first goal 4:55 into the second on a rebound after Kelson Hooper had stopped the previous two shots during a flurry in front.
  • Tchor gave Hamilton a two-goal cushion at 8:07 with a power-play tally. Neault and Logan Greene '24 had the assists. Jack Seamans cut Canton's deficit in half just 61 seconds later.
