CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Charlie Archer '25 made 33 saves and the Continentals posted a 3-0 NESCAC win against the Amherst College Mammoths inside Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday, Nov. 17.
Season Update
Friday night's conference matchup was the season opener for both teams.
How It Happened
- After a scoreless first period, the Continentals tallied two goals in the second. Ben Zimmerman '26 gained control of a loose puck in Hamilton's defensive zone and a 2-on-1 breakaway opportunity with Carson Hall '26 developed. Zimmerman passed to his left across the slot to Hall from the top of the right faceoff circle and received the return pass from Hall. Zimmerman one-timed the centering pass from the top of the crease into a wide-open net 3:55 into the period.
- The Continentals made it 2-0 with 9:32 left in the second. Max Bulawka '26 won an offensive zone faceoff cleanly back to defenseman Max Wutzke '24 and his slap shot from above the right circle slipped underneath the goaltender and across the goal line. The goalie may have lost track of the puck as it somehow managed to avoid three players in its path.
- Amherst still trailed by two goals late in the third period when Alex Wisco was pulled for an extra skater with 2:25 remaining. Ryan Sordillo '27 won a faceoff in Hamilton's defensive zone and Justin Biraben '27 fired the puck down the length of the ice towards the open net. Grisha Gotovets '25 wiped out the icing call by getting to the puck first and batted it behind the goal. A Mammoths player misplayed the loose puck and Gotovets gained control near the bottom of the right faceoff circle. He left it off for Sordillo, who fired a wrist shot into the empty net with 2:13 to go.
- Amherst had a wrist shot clang off the crossbar 6:45 into the third period that would have cut its deficit in half.
- The Mammoths had a 5-on-3 power play for 71 seconds early in the first period. A one-timer banged off the right post 5:12 into the first, as the loose puck bounced off Archer's back and somehow managed to stay out of the goal. The shot off the post was one of six shot attempts during the two-man advantage. Two more were blocked and Archer made a fantastic glove save on another.
