Lambo ’26 paces women’s basketball in opening win over Utica, 65-47

Sophomore registered 26 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Taylor Lambo '26 poured in 26 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in the Continentals' 65-47 non-conference win against the Utica University Pioneers at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday, Nov. 10. 
 
Season Update
  • Hamilton (1-0) picked up its sixth consecutive season-opening win and fifth straight under head coach Mahogany Green
  • Utica, which is a member of the Empire 8 Conference, dipped to 0-2 overall. 
How It Happened
  • Trailing 6-2, Kendall Harris '27 scored Hamilton's next five points on a 3-ball and a layup for a 7-6 lead 4:07 into the opening quarter. 
  • The Pioneers converted two shots at the charity stripe and regained a one-point lead at 8-7. Hamilton quickly responded with a three-point play by Lambo on a feed from Emily Hall '24.  
  • Utica countered with four straight points for its last lead at 12-10 with 2:10 remaining. Lambo went to work and popped off for the next five points for a 15-12 advantage with 42 seconds left. The Continentals stayed in front the rest of the night. 
  • Hamilton's Abbey Schwoebel '27 was fouled with 0.1 seconds left and made a free throw for a 16-12 cushion. 
  • Tessa Cole '25 caught a pass from Courtney Shay '24 and drained a 3-pointer for a six-point lead at 21-15. 
  • Schwoebel and Sophie Thompson '24 hit back-to-back layups and Lambo knocked down two from the line for a 27-20 score with 4:26 remaining. 
  • Another layup by Lambo gave Hamilton its first double-digit lead at 32-22 with 2:27 to go.
  • Utica scored the last four points of the first half on free throws in the final minute and trailed 34-28 at the break. 
  • The Continentals set the tone with a 6-0 streak at the start of the second half. 
  • Maria Mercado Rengel '24 nailed a 3-pointer from the wing and Lambo completed a fast break with a layup on a feed from Hall for a 14-point cushion at 48-34. 
  • The Pioneers held Hamilton scoreless for the final three minutes of the third quarter and pulled within single digits at 48-39.  
  • Hamilton limited Utica to just eight points in the final quarter, but the Pioneers were still within striking distance at 52-44 with 5:50 left. The Continentals ran off 10 straight points during the next four minutes and led 62-44 with 1:39 remaining. 
  • Sophie Blomberg '26 hit a shot from beyond the arc and gave Hamilton its largest lead of 20 points at 65-45 with 47 seconds to go. 
  • The Continentals held a 61-40 edge on rebounds. 
  • Hamilton registered 34 points in the paint and 23 off the bench. 
  • The Pioneers shot 23.6 percent (13-55) from the field and was 1 of 16 from the 3-point line.  
Notes
  • Hamilton leads the all-time series 32-12. 
  • Lambo, who was selected the 2023 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, filled the stat sheet with her eighth career double-double and added a career-best five blocks and two steals. She pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
  • Harris chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals. 
  • Cole added six points off the bench. 
  • Hall dished out a game-high six assists. 
  • Mercado Rengel tallied three steals and a career-high three blocks.  
  • Vanessa Hall led Utica with 13 points while Kate Mahoney contributed nine.  
Next Game
The Continentals host SUNY Morrisville (2-0) for another non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
