LEWISTON, Maine – Hamilton College's
Julian Jacobs '24 and
Luke Ehrenfreund '25 connected for goals, and the Continentals blanked the Bates College Bobcats 2-0 in NESCAC action at Bates' Russell Street Field on Saturday afternoon.
Season Update
- Hamilton improved to 5-4-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the NESCAC.
- Bates dropped to 2-7-1 and 0-6-0 in the conference.
How It Happened
- The Continentals knocked on the door early with five shots and two corner kicks in the first 15 minutes.
- Hamilton capitalized off a corner kick with a goal by Jacobs in the 32nd minute. After the corner, the Bobcats attempted to clear the ball from the box, but Tommy Kantrowitz '25 intercepted a pass. Kantrowitz dished it over to Jacobs who sent a left-footed rocket that settled in the right side of the net.
- The Bobcats fired two shots in the final 10 minutes of the half but Kai Haesslein '24 made the stops.
- Hamilton doubled its lead in the 77th minute on a free kick by Ehrenfreund. The Continentals had a one-on-one breakaway chance and a yellow card was issued to a Bates defender that gave Hamilton a free-kick opportunity right outside the box. Ehrenfreund took the shot, which grazed the tops of the heads in the Bobcats' wall and sailed past a diving Trevor Hammond.
- The Continentals outshot the Bobcats 16-9 with eight on target.
- Bates held a 9-8 edge on corner kicks.
Notes
- The last time Hamilton defeated Bates was on Sept. 8, 2018.
- Jacobs tallied his first collegiate goal.
- Ehrenfreund registered his team-high fifth goal of the season and the eighth of his career.
- Haesslein made three saves in his second consecutive clean sheet and his fourth this season.
- Hammond collected six saves for the Bobcats.
