BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College's Skye LaMendola posted 20 kills and 16 digs, and the Polar Bears defeated the Hamilton College Continentals in five tough sets (25-16, 16-25, 25-18, 16-25, 15-12) inside Bowdoin's Morrell Gymnasium on Friday, Oct. 6.
Season Update
- Hamilton (6-6, 2-3 NESCAC) has lost four of its last five matches. Four of the Continentals' five conference matches have ended in five sets.
- The Polar Bears (8-4, 3-3) have won four of their previous five matches.
How It Happened
- In the fifth set the score was tied at 11-11, and Bowdoin clinched its victory by scoring four of the next five points. LaMendola ended the match with a kill.
- The Polar Bears jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set and led the rest of the way.
- In the second set three straight points by Hamilton gave the Continentals a 5-2 advantage. Hamilton stayed on top for the rest of the set. The Continentals had 12 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
- Hamilton took a 6-2 lead in the third set but Bowdoin roared back with an 11-3 run and went up 13-9. The Continentals recovered and tied the score at 16-16. The Polar Bears ran off the next three points and won the set by seven.
- The score was tied at 5-5 in the fourth set before two Bowdoin attack errors gave Hamilton a 7-5 edge. The Continentals slowly pulled away from there and eventually took the set by nine points. Hamilton had just two attack errors and recorded a .290 hitting percentage.
Notes
- Kate Carman '24 racked up 23 of the Continentals' 45 kills and boasted a .327 hitting percentage. Carman is fourth in the NESCAC with 3.45 kills per set.
- Melissa Morelli '24 handed out 37 assists and served three aces. Morelli is fourth in the conference with 7.80 assists per set.
- Hamilton's Caitlin Allen '27 led all players with seven blocks and has 24 in the last three matches. Allen is fourth in the NESCAC with 1.00 block per set.
- Kendall Scholz '27 was credited with a season-high 23 digs and Summer McClintic '27 added a season-best 17.
- The Polar Bears' LaMendola leads the conference in kills per set.
- Ella Haugen passed out 48 assists and came up with 11 digs.
- Maya White led the defense with a match-high 24 digs.
- Bowdoin ended up with 11 more kills than the Continentals.
