AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College's Muffie Mazambani scored two goals as the Mammoths overcame an early deficit and recorded a 4-1 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Amherst's Hill Field on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Season Update
- Nationally ranked No. 23 Hamilton (7-7, 3-7 NESCAC) is in ninth place in the conference standings with one non-conference game left in the regular season. If Trinity College defeats Amherst on Tuesday, the Continentals won't make the eight-team NESCAC championship field. If Amherst defeats Trinity, Hamilton is in.
- The 15th-ranked Mammoths (9-5, 5-4) have won three straight and outscored their opponents 12-2 during the streak.
How It Happened
- The Continentals grabbed a 1-0 lead with 7:57 left in the first quarter when Sammy Higgins '26 passed to Hannah Dillon '24 for the goal. Hamilton held the one-goal edge at the end of the first 15 minutes.
- Mazambani tied the score 1:57 into the second quarter, and Anna Aiello was credited with the assist. The teams went into the break tied at 1-1.
- Mazambani's 13th goal this season put Amherst in the lead just 19 seconds into the third quarter.
- The Mammoths gave themselves some breathing room with two goals less than four minutes apart midway through the fourth quarter. Sam Maynard notched her 15th this season and Justine Liguori completed the scoring from the penalty stroke dot with 8:36 remaining.

- Dillon has three goals this season and is tied for the team lead with 10 points.
- Higgins registered her third assist this season and the fourth of her Hamilton career.
- Maeve Eskandari '24 made a defensive save late in the first quarter. Eskandari is tied for the Continentals' lead with three this season.
- Hamilton's Reilly Loughman '27 stopped four shots.
- Amherst held a 17-2 shot advantage and was awarded nine penalty corners to the Continentals' two.
