CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Reilly Loughman '27 stopped all three shots she faced and the Continentals shut out the William Smith College Herons 2-0 at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on an unseasonably pleasant Wednesday evening, Oct. 25.
Season Update
- The 25th-ranked Continentals (8-7 overall) finished the season with their third shutout. Hamilton was a perfect 5-0 against non-conference opponents and outscored those teams 13-3.
- William Smith (10-7) was held scoreless for the first time in 17 games this year.
How It Happened
- The Continentals were awarded a penalty corner with one second left in the first quarter. Sammy Higgins '26 inserted the ball to Hannah Dillon '24 on the left side and Dillon passed across the top of the shooting circle to Maeve Eskandari '24 as time ran out in the quarter. Eskandari took the ball over to the right wing and whacked a shot that Herons defender Kate Barilla stopped at the goal line. The ball popped up and Higgins batted it out of midair and into the back of the cage from the left post.
- Hamilton made it 2-0 on another corner 4:14 into the second quarter. Higgins started the play again and she inserted to Dillon on the near side. Dillon passed to Alana King '24 on the right wing and she swept a wrist shot past the goalkeeper.
- The Continentals took five shots in the last two minutes of the third quarter but came up empty.
- The teams were credited with one penalty corner and no shots in a relatively uneventful fourth quarter.
