Carman ’24 leads volleyball to sweep of Hartwick, blasts 14 kills

Continentals didn’t drop a set in two weekend non-conference matches

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Kate Carman '24 smashed a team-high 14 kills and the Continentals defeated the Hartwick College Hawks in three sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon.

Season Update
  • Hamilton (10-7 overall) has won four of its last five matches.
  • Hartwick, which is a member of the Empire 8 Conference, moved to 11-9 overall.
How It Happened

The Continentals scored five of the next six points on kills by Carman, Elodie McGeiver '27, Drew Stimson '25 and Summer McClintic '24 for an 8-7 lead. The Hawks took advantage of a kill and four Hamilton attack errors as they went on a 5-0 run and went up 14-11. The Continentals countered with four straight points for a 15-14 advantage. A five-point Hamilton rally turned a 16-16 tie into a 21-16 cushion. The Hawks battled back and evened the score at 23-23, but the Continentals took the final two points on a kill by Stimson and a Hartwick attack error.
  • After six early ties, the Hawks went up by four at 18-14 in the second set. The Continentals trailed 19-15 but cut the deficit to one on a kill by McGeiver, an attack error and block assists by McGeiver and Stimson. The Hawks still led 21-19, but a kill and a block by Stimson and an attack error gave Hamilton a 22-21 edge. Tied at 23-23, Hamilton capitalized on another attack error and Melissa Morelli '24 closed out the set with a service ace.
  • The Continentals opened the third set with four straight points and jumped out to an 11-3 lead. Hamilton led by as many as 11 points at 20-9. Up 22-12, Hamilton recorded its final three points of the match on kills by McClintic and Stimson, and block assists by Stimson and Caroline Friedrichs '25.
