No. 23 field hockey drops midweek NESCAC game, Grace '25 scores

No. 9 Williams scored three times in the second quarter and went on to the 4-1 win

CLINTON, N.Y. – Williams College's Molly Hellman scored two goals and assisted on another, and the Ephs defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 4-1 at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Wednesday evening, Oct. 18.
 

Season Update

  • The Continentals (7-6, 3-6 NESCAC) are ranked 23rd in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association Top 25 poll.
  • No. 9 Williams (8-4, 5-2) played its fourth straight ranked opponent and was 2-2 during that stretch.
 

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first quarter when the teams combined for one shot, The Ephs tallied three goals in the second.
  • Reilly Loughman '27 made a save on a shot by Kiki Higgins, but Hellman pounced on the rebound with 11:30 left in the quarter.
  • Williams made it 2-0 just 35 seconds later off a penalty corner. Hellman redirected a pass by Elizabeth Scarcella.
  • Pilar Torres notched the third goal with 7:02 remaining in the second after she received the penalty corner insertion from Hellman.
  • Delaney Grace '25 scored Hamilton's goal 62 seconds into the third quarter. Gates Tenerowicz stopped a shot by Alden Duserick '27, but Grace poked in the rebound from point-blank range.
  • The Ephs restored their three-goal advantage with 4:24 to go in the third after a foul in the arc by the Continentals led to a penalty stroke. Scarcella buried the shot into the left side of the cage and rounded out the scoring.
  • Hamilton had all four of its penalty corners in the fourth quarter but mustered only one shot.
 

Notes

  • Grace is tied for the Continentals' team lead with five goals and 10 points. She has 12 goals and 28 points in her Hamilton career.
  • Loughman turned away three shots.
  • Tenerowicz stopped two shots for Williams.
 

Next Game

The Continentals play their NESCAC regular season finale at No. 15 Amherst College (7-5, 4-4) on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.
