CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Emma Kelesoglu '27 scored in the 88
th minute and lifted the Continentals to a 2-1 non-conference win against the Hartwick College Hawks at Hamilton's Love Field on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Season Update
- Hamilton (6-2-3 overall) is ranked 20th in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll.
- Hartwick, which is a member of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference, dipped to 2-5-4 overall.
How It Happened
- With time running out, Hamilton took a 2-1 lead with just 2:24 remaining. Lauren Hanna '25 sent a pass downfield to Erin Rayhill '25 who ripped a beautiful cross from the right side to the back post. Kelesoglu one-timed it off her foot in mid-air and into the left-hand side of the net.
- Hartwick's Gianna Cacciola used a breakaway opportunity to put the Hawks on the board 7:20 into the opening half.
- After a flurry of four shots in less than two minutes, the Continentals connected for the equalizer on an indirect free kick goal by Maddie Ledbury '26 in the 28th minute. Hamilton took a corner kick and a shot, but a Hartwick player fell on top of the ball during a scramble at the edge of the six-yard box, and the Continentals were awarded the indirect free kick from point-blank range. Carly McMahon '27 tapped it over to Ledbury who rocketed a hard shot up and over the hands of goalkeeper Bayleigh Ardito.
- Hamilton racked up a season-high 29 shots and allowed just three Hartwick shot attempts.
- The Continentals carried an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Notes
- Hamilton has defeated Hartwick the last four meetings. The Continentals lead the overall series 14-9-4. The teams hadn't played each other since 2019.
- Ledbury buried her second goal of the season.
- Kelesoglu tallied her first collegiate goal.
- Hanna recorded the first assist of her career.
- Rayhill dished out her fourth assist of the season and leads the Continentals with 12 points.
