Men's soccer edged 3-2 by Conn. College in NESCAC thriller

Travers '24 and Burke '26 scored goals for the Continentals

CLINTON, N.Y. – Connecticut College's Jack Marvel scored the go-ahead goal in the 75th minute and the Camels held on for a 3-2 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Season Update

  • The Continentals (3-4-2, 1-4-1 NESCAC) were trying for their fourth win in the last five matches.
  • Conn. College (6-0-2, 2-0-2) won their fourth straight contest.

How It Happened

  • The teams combined to score four goals in a wild opening 16 minutes of the first half. Maurice Pigola gave the Camels a 1-0 advantage in the seventh minute.
  • Hamilton tied the score in the 10th minute. After a long free kick was sent into the box, Luke Peplowski '25 controlled the loose ball and passed it out to a charging Ravi Travers '24. His right-footed, one-timer from the edge of the 18 sailed into the top-right corner of the goal.
  • Matt Scoffone put Conn. College back in front just 38 seconds later on a strike from 25 yards out following a turnover by the Continentals in their half of the pitch.
  • Hamilton drew even again in the 16th minute. Lucas O'Dowd '25 collected a loose ball in front of the Camels' bench and dribbled it all the way into the box. Three defenders converged on him and he got off a centering pass as he fell to the turf. Aedan Burke '26 was wide open in the middle as he tapped the ball forward and hammered a shot into the left side of the net from just outside the six-yard box.
  • The score remained tied until 15:45 remained in the second half when Marvel headed in a cross just a couple feet from the left post. The Continentals managed one shot in the final 15 minutes.

Notes

  • Travers has two goals this season and three for his Hamilton career.
  • Burke scored for the second time in the last three matches.
  • O'Dowd has an assist in two straight matches.
  • Peplowski leads the team and is tied for third in the NESCAC with four assists.
  • Kai Haesslein '24 made three saves for the Continentals.
  • Peter Silvester stopped four shots for Conn. College.
