Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Jim Taylor

Men's basketball drops heartbreaker at Ithaca on wild buzzer-beater

Continentals jumped out to a 10-0 lead against the Bombers

Ithaca, N.Y. -- Ithaca College's Logan Wendell grabbed an offensive rebound and made the game-winning shot as the final horn sounded in the Bombers' 59-57 non-conference victory against the Hamilton College Continentals at Ithaca's Ben Light Gymnasium on Monday.

Season Update
Hamilton dropped to 8-5 overall while the Bombers, who are 1-1 in the Liberty League, improved to 5-4.

How It Happened
  • After an Ithaca timeout with 3.8 seconds left, the Bombers inbounded the ball from near mid-court to Luka Radovich, who turned and badly missed a 3-point attempt wide left. Wendell grabbed the loose ball and, with his back to the basket along the baseline, flipped the ball over his head. The ball bounced on the rim, off the backboard and finally dropped in with no time left.
  • Things looked good early for the Continentals as they scored the first 10 points and led 10-0 less than three minutes into the first half. Liam Regan '23 opened the scoring with a layup before Hank Morgan '25 was fouled while attempting a 3-point shot and made all three free throws. Conner Rood '23 grabbed a defensive board, raced down to the other end and found Morgan for a trifecta, and Patrick Mogan '23 ended the spurt with a layup.
  • Ithaca responded with a 22-4 run and led 22-14 with 6:31 remaining.
  • The Bombers led by as many as 10 points at 27-17 on a layup by Noah Downing with 3:30 to go.
  • Hamilton climbed back to within five points three times late in the half, including at 31-26 on a jumper by Regan that beat the halftime buzzer.
  • Ithaca led for most of the second half with a few exceptions. Yashiya Crespin '26 drained a 3-pointer that gave the Continentals a 46-45 edge with 9:10 left. Rood tied the score at 49-49 on an old-fashioned 3-point play with 6:36 remaining, and Rood found Eric Anderson '23 for a layup that tied the score at 51-all 35 seconds later. Garret Keyhani '26 tied the score again at 55-55 on two free throws with 2:45 to go, and Morgan gave Hamilton its last lead at 57-55 on a jumper in the paint with 1:21 left.

Notes
  • Morgan paced the Continentals with 16 points. He has scored in double figures in all 13 contests and is third in the NESCAC with 17.2 points per game.
  • Anderson chipped in 14 points.
  • Mogan nearly pulled off a double-double as he finished with eight points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
  • Rood tied a career high with 10 assists and is seventh in the conference with 3.2 per game.
  • Radovich led the Bombers with 15 points and Wendell had 10.
  • Hamilton held a 38-33 advantage on the glass.
  • Ithaca ended up with 38 points in the paint.
