Singh ’25 guides men’s basketball to non-conference win at SUNY Poly

Sophomore guard scored more than 20 points for the third time in six games

Hamilton College's Teja Singh '25 poured in 21 points and the Continentals rallied for a 67-57 non-conference road win against the SUNY Polytechnic Wildcats at SUNY Poly's Campus Center Gym on Tuesday evening. 
 
How It Happened
  • A 17-3 Hamilton run in the second half turned a 50-44 deficit with 9:25 left into a 61-53 lead with 3:28 remaining.
  • Singh swished a 3-pointer that gave the Continentals the lead for good at 55-53 with 5:52 to go. Owen Kane '25 pushed it to 57-53 on a jumper. 
  • Patrick Mogan '23 and Graham Robinson '25 made layups for the 61-53 advantage. 
  • The Wildcats called a timeout and Jesse O'Dell converted on two shots at the line as they trailed by six points at 61-55. 
  • Hamilton earned its largest lead of the night at 65-55 with 1:37 left after a layup by Singh and perfect trip to the line by Kane.  
  • The Wildcats finished 0 of 4 from the floor in the final 56 seconds and Singh hit a pair at the stripe for the 67-57 final.  
  • SUNY Poly scored the first four points but Singh put Hamilton on the board with a 3-pointer. 
  • Mogan went 2-for-2 at the line and Singh netted another 3-ball for an 8-4 lead in the opening three-plus minutes. 
  • Tied at 10-10, the Continentals went on a 7-0 run for a 17-10 advantage as Singh started and ended the spurt with jumpers. 
  • The Wildcats chipped away at their deficit and made it a one-possession game at 17-16 with 8:21 remaining. 
  • Hank Morgan '25 flushed a dunk and Conner Rood '23 nailed a 3-pointer for a six-point cushion with 6:15 to go.  
  • SUNY Poly countered with a 14-4 rally and forged another tie at 26-26. The Wildcats took the lead on two shots at the line and a jumper by Cheickne Toure for a 30-26 edge at the break. 
  • Rood hit a pair at the charity stripe and slashed the Wildcats' lead to 30-29. 
  • SUNY Poly countered with a 6-0 streak for a 36-29 advantage with 16:52 left. 
  • The Continentals put together a timely 9-4 run and trailed by just two points at 42-40. 
  • The Wildcats scored the next four points for a 46-40 lead with 11:17 remaining. 
  • Hamilton refused to back down and tied the score for the fifth time at 50-50 after baskets by Christian McDaniel '24, Rood and Singh, and free throws by Mogan. 
  • Hamilton shot 41.7 percent (25-60) from the floor and 76.5 percent (13-17) at the charity stripe. 
  • SUNY Poly shot 36.7 percent (18-49) from the floor and 79.2 percent (19-24) at the line. 
  • Hamilton owned a 43-29 advantage on the glass and scored 11 second-chance points to the Wildcats' three. 
Notes
  • Hamilton improved to 12-7 on the season and recorded consecutive wins for the first time since early December. 
  • SUNY Poly, which is 4-5 in the North Atlantic Conference, dipped to 9-11 overall. 
  • Hamilton has won 12 in a row against the Wildcats and leads the all-time series, 36-2. 
  • Singh shot 8 of 14 from the floor, including 3 of 7 from beyond the arc. He tallied his 12th double-digit point contest of the season and his third with 20-plus in the last six games. 
  • Kane went 6 of 8 from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 at the line for a career-high 15 points off the bench. 
  • Rood collected 10 of his 13 points in the second half. He filled the stat sheet with nine rebounds, six assists and two steals.  
  • Mogan added seven points and tied a season high with 11 boards. 
Next Game
  • Hamilton will open a three-game homestand against NESCAC foe Trinity College (14-4, 2-2 NESCAC) on Friday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. It will be the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Game.
