Women’s basketball downed by No. 24 Ithaca on the road

Continentals begin conference play on Jan. 6 with road trip to Middlebury

Ithaca, N.Y. – Nationally ranked No. 24 Ithaca College took the lead for good with six straight points in the first quarter and the Bombers went on to a 57-44 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Ithaca's Ben Light Gymnasium on Monday afternoon. 
 
How It Happened
  • Trailing 10-8 after a 3-pointer by Hamilton's Courtney Shay '24, Ithaca scored the next six points and led 14-10 with 3:06 left. The Bombers claimed an 18-15 edge after one quarter. 
  • Ithaca used another 6-0 spurt at the start of the second quarter for a nine-point advantage with 8:25 remaining. 
  • Ithaca held Hamilton to eight points in the second and took a 32-23 advantage into the break. 
  • Hamilton trailed by a game-high 14 points at 44-30 with 4:09 left in the third quarter.
  • The Continentals climbed back into it with an 11-2 run that covered the rest of the third. Taylor Lambo '26 closed out the final seconds with a layup and a trip to the line for the and-1 that cut Hamilton's deficit to five points at 46-41 heading into the fourth quarter. 
  • Althea Hill '26 opened up the fourth with a 3-pointer that sliced Ithaca's lead to 46-44 with 8:36 left, but the Continentals didn't score again. The Bombers ended the fourth quarter with 11 unanswered points. 
  • The opening quarter featured six lead changes and two ties. 
  • Hamilton shot 28 percent (14-50) from the field, including 35.3 percent (6-17) from 3-point range, and 62.5 percent (10-16) at the charity stripe. 
  • Hamilton's defense held Ithaca to 14.3 percent shooting at 2 of 14 from beyond the arc, its lowest of the season. 
  • Ithaca shot 34.7 percent (25-72) from the floor and was just 5-for-8 at the line. 
  • The Bombers tallied 36 points in the paint and scored 11 points off 22 Hamilton turnovers.
  • Ithaca held a 45-42 advantage on the glass.
Notes
  • Hamilton dropped to 7-3 overall with its second straight loss against a ranked team.
  • Ithaca, which is a member of the Liberty League, improved to 7-2. 
  • Emma Sehring '23 paced Hamilton will 11 points and added eight boards, two blocks and a career-best four steals.
  • Lambo was one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Maria Mercado Rengel '24 contributed 10 points off the bench. 
  • Hill and Shay tallied six points apiece.
  • Ithaca's Hannah Polce and Lindsey Albertelli led the Bombers with 12 points apiece. Albertelli registered a team-best nine rebounds and added five steals. Polce had six of Ithaca's 16 steals. 
  • Emily Dorn and Annabella Yorio netted eight points apiece. Dorn also blocked four shots.

  • Hamilton opens NESCAC play with a road trip to Middlebury College (6-5 overall) on Friday, Jan. 6. Opening tip is at 7 p.m.
