No. 6 women's hockey shut out at home by Williams, 1-0

Continentals had won a team-record eight straight, including six in a row against ranked opponents

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Williams College's Erin Pye made 30 saves and the Ephs shut out the Hamilton College Continentals 1-0 in a NESCAC game played at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Friday night.

Season Update
The nationally ranked No. 6 Continentals (10-3-0, 5-2 NESCAC) had their team-record win streak end at eight games. Williams improved to 8-5-0 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

How It Happened
  • Maddie Tix scored the lone goal with 7:31 left in the second period. Maddie Zack dumped the puck deep into Hamilton's defensive zone for what seemed to be an icing call, but the Ephs' Ellia Chiang hustled to the goal line and forced the linesman to wave it off. The Continentals' goaltender Mac Donovan '26 tried to poke the puck away, but Tix reached it first and swept it into a mostly open net.
  • Hamilton had more than three minutes of power play and put 11 shots on goal in the third period, but Pye kept everything out of her net.
  • The Continentals pulled Donovan for an extra skater with about 1:15 remaining. A long shot by Chiang hit the right post in the final minute.

Notes
  • Donovan finished with 14 saves in her second start this week for Hamilton.
  • Katherine Solohub '23 was credited with three blocked shots for the Continentals.
  • Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.
  • Hamilton's penalty kill hasn't allowed a power-play goal since the first game of the season.

Next Game
The Continentals and the Ephs play again at Sage Rink on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 3 p.m.
