Women’s basketball bounces back in overtime for win over Bates

Sehring ’23 and Lambo ’26 register double-doubles in the Continentals’ NESCAC victory

CLINTON, N.Y. - Hamilton College's Emma Sehring '23 and Emily Hall '24 scored 20 points apiece and the Continentals posted an 80-71 NESCAC overtime win against the Bates College Bobcats at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday evening.
 
How It Happened
  • Bates opened the extra period with a free throw but Taylor Lambo '26 hit a layup and Courtney Shay '24 drained a 3-pointer for a 71-67 lead with 3:22 remaining. 
  • The Bobcats' Meghan Graff nailed a jumper and Jenna Berens went 2-for-2 at the stripe as Bates drew even with 2:19 to go. 
  • The Continentals closed out overtime by scoring nine straight points. Sehring's layup gave them the lead for good with 2:00 left, and Hamilton went 7-for-10 at the line in the last 1:36.
  • Bates held a 63-58 lead with 4:38 remaining in the fourth quarter. 
  • Hall netted a jumper and Maria Mercado Rengel '24 hit a pair at the line that pulled Hamilton within one point at 63-62 with 51 ticks to go.  
  • Bates' Alexandra Long made a jumper from the wing before Lambo hit two at the line with 30 seconds left and the Continentals trailed 65-64. 
  • Elsa Daulerio hit 1 of 2 at the free-throw line for the Bobcats with 29 seconds left. 
  • With the shot clock off, the Continentals were able to get a layup that danced around the rim and fell off, but Lambo secured the offensive board. She passed the ball to Sehring for the game-tying layup with four seconds remaining. 
  • Tied at 43-43 midway through the third quarter, Hamilton scored the next four points on jumpers by Lambo and Olivia Davis '24 with 3:30 remaining. 
  • Bates responded with four straight points and tied the score at 47 apiece with 2:30 left. 
  • The Bobcats and Continentals traded baskets the rest of the quarter, and Bates held a 54-53 edge heading into the fourth. 
  • Hamilton had its best shooting in the second quarter at 55.6 percent (10-18). The Continentals held a 37-33 lead at the break. 
  • Bates owned a 20-12 advantage after the opening quarter. 
  • Bates shot 40.3 percent (31-77) from the floor and was 8-for-13 at the line. 
  • The Bobcats blocked 10 shots. 
  • Hamilton shot 42.6 percent (29-68) from the floor, including 4 of 8 from the 3-point line, and 69.2 percent (18-26) at the charity stripe. 
  • The Continentals collected 48 points in the paint and held a 50-40 advantage on the glass. 
Notes
  • Hamilton improved to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in the NESCAC. 
  • Bates moved to 7-6 and 1-1 in the conference. 
  • Sehring tallied her sixth double-double this season with a career-high 20 points and 15 rebounds. She also added two blocks and leads Hamilton with 13 overall. 
  • Hall registered a season-high 20 points with five assists off the bench. 
  • Lambo earned her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 boards.
  • Davis scored 10 points and made three steals in just 15 minutes. 
  • Graff paced the Bobcats with 20 points and added a pair of steals. She is second in the NESCAC with 21.1 points per game. 
  • Berens added 12 points and two blocks. 
  • Long scored 12 points and handed out four assists. 
  • Kayla Bridgeman recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. 
  • Daulerio collected 10 points, nine rebounds and a team-best four blocks.

  • The Continentals host nationally ranked No. 25 Tufts (11-4, 2-0 NESCAC) on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 3 p.m.
