No. 19 men’s soccer battles to 1-1 tie against No. 6/9 Wesleyan

Griffin Weidner ’26 nets first collegiate goal in his third game with the Continentals

The Hamilton College Continentals and Wesleyan University Cardinals played to a 1-1 tie in a clash between nationally ranked NESCAC opponents at Hamilton's Love Field on a wet Sunday afternoon.
 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton struck in the eighth minute on a beautiful rebound goal by Griffin Weidner '26. Jude Rouhana '25 worked his way into the box and fired a shot that deflected off Wesleyan goalkeeper Liam Devanny. Weidner got possession and hit the back-left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.  
  • The Cardinals almost drew even in the 41st minute on a high rocket of a shot by Soren Tollis that Ben Ziegler '24 tipped off the crossbar. 
  • With less than two minutes remaining in the second half, Wesleyan applied pressure and earned a free kick. Phillip Cubeddu sent the ball to the left side of the box where Evan O'Brien headed in the equalizer into the upper-left corner with 1:37 left.   
  • Wesleyan outshot Hamilton 17-15. 
  • The Cardinals carried an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.

  • Hamilton (6-0-1, 3-0-1 NESCAC) is ranked 19th in both the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll and the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll.
  • Wesleyan (6-0-1, 3-0-1) is No. 6 in the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll and No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll. 
  • Weidner tallied his first collegiate goal. 
  • Ziegler posted five saves and has an .857 save percentage. 
  • O'Brien scored his third goal on the season. 
  • Devanny collected six saves for the Cardinals.
