Dawson ’23 scores in women’s soccer tie against No. 7/11 Tufts

Senior forward leads Continentals with seven points

The Hamilton College Continentals kicked off a NESCAC weekend with a 1-1 tie against the nationally ranked No. 7/11 Tufts University Jumbos at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday. 
 
How It Happened
  • Caroline Dawson '23 scored for Hamilton in the 12th minute. Dawson danced around the defense and cracked a breakaway shot that snuck by Tufts' Kaelin Logue and settled in the lower-right corner. 
  • The Jumbos had a few opportunities to even the score late in the first frame with three shots by Tufts' Claire Wilkinson. 
  • Tufts' Elsi Aires scored the equalizer in the 67th minute on a free kick. Caroline O'Neill sailed the ball to the goal mouth and Aires found the ball to tap it in the lower-right corner. 
  • Tufts outshot Hamilton 27-13 with 14 on net. 
  • The Jumbos carried an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. 
Notes
  • Hamilton (3-1-2, 1-1-2 NESCAC) received votes in the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll. 
  • Tufts moved to 4-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference. 
  • Dawson tallied her second goal of the season. 
  • Nieve Tonna '26 made a season-high 13 saves, with eight in the second-half, and improved her save percentage to .842. 
  • Aires scored her first career goal and led Tufts with eight total shots including four on goal. 
  • Logue collected a pair of saves in the first half before she gave way to Hayley Bernstein.

  • The Continentals will return to Love Field on Sunday, Sept. 25 for another NESCAC matchup against Wesleyan University at 11 a.m.
