Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Peplowski ’25 lifts No. 19 men’s soccer with last-minute goal

Continentals remain undefeated through five matches

Hamilton College's Luke Peplowski '25 netted a goal late in the second half and lifted the Continentals to a 1-0 non-conference win against the SUNY Polytechnic Wildcats at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field on Tuesday evening.

How It Happened
  • Lucas O'Dowd '25 chipped a cross to the middle of the box into a sea of blue and white where Charles Hawthorn '25 battled for possession and took a quick shot. The shot deflected off the keeper's glove and Peplowski pounded the rebound into the left corner for the winner.
  • Hamilton's defense proved capable once again, limiting the Wildcats to just two shots in the first half.
  • The Continentals were on the attack for most of the second half, producing nine of their 13 shots.
  • SUNY Poly had its best opportunity in the 76th minute on a free kick at the top of the box after a Hamilton foul, but Kai Haesslein '24 made the save.
  • Hawthorn had a promising chance in the 80th minute with a hard shot to the upper 90 but it hit the post and ricocheted directly into the hands of SUNY Poly's Ryan Primus.
  • Haesslein had three of his four saves in the last 31 minutes.
  • The Continentals held a 12-4 edge in corner kicks.
  • Hamilton outshot SUNY Poly 13-7 with seven on target.
Notes
  • The Continentals are 5-0-0 for the first time since 2005.
  • Hamilton has defeated SUNY Poly (3-3-0) the last eight meetings with the last seven being shutouts.
  • Hamilton is ranked 19th in both the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll and the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll.
  • Peplowski recorded his third goal on the season and leads the Continentals with seven points.
  • The Continentals earned their third shutout of 2022.
  • Hamilton had six players – Haesslein, Julian Jacobs '24, Pandelis Margaronis '25, Tommy Kantrowitz '25, Luke Ehrenfreund '25 and Peplowski – play the full 90 minutes.
  • Haesslein picked up his second win and second shutout of the season with four saves.
  • Primus contributed six saves in goal for the Wildcats.
Next Match
  • The Continentals return to Love Field for a NESCAC matchup against No. 10/RV Tufts University on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1:30 p.m.
