Mosher ’23 scores in women’s soccer NESCAC loss at Middlebury

Senior forward nets second goal of the season for the Continentals

Middlebury College's Ellie Bavier and Ella Gagnon recorded a goal and an assist apiece, and the Panthers posted a 4-1 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Middlebury's Dragone Field on Saturday. 
 
How It Happened
  • Middlebury struck early with an unassisted goal by Bavier who fired it from 25 yards out in the sixth minute. 
  • Hyla Mosher '23 netted Hamilton's only goal at 13:48. Rose McCullough '23 sent the ball over the Panthers defense, forcing Middlebury goalkeeper Lucy VanNewkirk out of position. Mosher sprinted to the ball and chipped a shot past VanNewkirk that evened the score. 
  • Middlebury took back the lead at 27:23 on a goal by Sophia Cole that was assisted by Gagnon.
  • Kiley Bertos and Gagnon scored in the 47th and 73rd minutes, respectively, for the Panthers. 
  • Middlebury notched 13 shots on goal and outshot Hamilton 18-16. 
  • The Panthers held a 7-2 edge on corner kicks. 
Notes
  • The Continentals moved to 2-1-1 overall (1-1-1 NESCAC) while Middlebury improved to 4-1-0 (1-1). 
  • Both Hamilton and Middlebury received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll.
  • Hamilton defeated Middlebury 3-2 in overtime at Hamilton's Love Field in 2021. 
  • Mosher tallied her 19th career goal and her second of the season. 
  • McCullough collected her first assist of the season. 
  • Middlebury's Bavier and Bertos netted their first goals, while Gagnon added her second and Cole registered her third. 
  • VanNewkirk collected a season-high four saves in net. 
  • Nieve Tonna '26 made a season-high nine stops for the Continentals.
