Field hockey edges Rochester in overtime thriller

Lilly Truchon '26 made her first collegiate goal a game-winner for the Continentals

Hamilton College's Lilly Truchon '26 scored with 2:53 left in the first sudden-victory overtime period and lifted the Continentals to a 3-2 non-conference win against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Tuesday evening.

Season Update
The Continentals improved to 2-1 overall while Rochester, which is a member of the Liberty League for field hockey, dropped to 4-2.

How It Happened
  • Truchon inserted the ball to Claire Tratnyek '26 at the top of the circle on a penalty corner with 3:02 remaining. Tratnyek passed to Alana King '24 on the left wing and got the ball right back. Tratnyek took a couple steps forward and unleashed a hard shot towards the cage that Truchon, who was set up to the goalkeeper's right, tipped in for the winner.
  • Hamilton took a 1-0 lead with 11:12 to go in the second quarter on another penalty corner situation. Delaney Grace '25 inserted the ball to King, who was all alone on the left wing. She hammered a shot that skipped through the goalkeeper's feet.
  • The Yellowjackets tied the score just 1:22 into the third quarter. Karina Bridger directed a pass to Bella Militi near the left post. Militi redirected the ball across the cage mouth to Mara Heppard, who earlier had inserted the ball on the penalty corner, and she swept it across the goal line.
  • Maura Holden '23 put the Continentals back in front with 1:03 left in the third. Becky Felker '26 took a shot from the left wing that squeezed through a crowd of players but was stopped at the goal line by defender Elisabeth Sidorski. The loose ball popped out to Holden and she settled it before batting it in from a few feet away.
  • Rochester turned up the heat on Hamilton in the fourth quarter, and the pressure finally paid off with a tying goal with 3:48 remaining. Heppard inserted the ball on a penalty corner to Zoe Conomikes on the left wing. Conomikes' blast seemed to be going wide of the left post, but Heppard was there to redirect it into the cage.

Notes
  • Truchon's overtime game-winner was her first goal for the Continentals.
  • King tallied her fifth career goal in her 19th game.
