The Hamilton College Continentals defeated William Smith College and SUNY Brockport in the 2022 Brockport Invitational at Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym on Saturday.

- Hamilton won all three of its matches during the weekend invitational and improved to 4-0 overall.
- Liberty League member William Smith dropped to 3-2 overall while Brockport, which is from the SUNYAC, dipped to 5-2.

How It Happened
- The Continentals swept the Herons in three sets (27-25, 25-12, 25-20).
- In the first set Hamilton sprinted out to a 7-1 lead and went up by as many as seven points at 12-5.
- William Smith clawed back and tied the score twice midway through the set before the Herons registered four straight points for a 25-24 edge.
- The Continentals clinched the set on a kill by Kate Carman '24, a William Smith attack error and a kill by Summer McClintic '24.
- Hamilton took the lead for good in the second set at 5-4, but the Herons remained within four points at 16-12.
- The Continentals proceeded to run off the next nine points and closed out the set. The spurt featured five aces by Melissa Morelli '24 and three kills, including the final one by Chiara Morley-McLaughlin '24.
- William Smith led 16-14 in the third set but six consecutive points by Hamilton put the Continentals in the lead to stay. Carman and Drew Stimson '25 had two kills apiece during the decisive run.
- Carman closed out the match with a kill.

Notes
- Carman led Hamilton with 12 kills and Rylee Bergeron '26 chipped in 10. Bergeron's hitting percentage was .533 after committing just two attack errors in 15 attempts.
- McClintic posted a team-high eight digs and added seven kills and two aces.
- Morelli handed out 27 assists and served a career-high seven aces.
- Stimson contributed three aces and a team-best two blocks.
- The Continentals racked up 16 aces compared to four for the Herons.
- Hamilton, which hit .329 as a team, finished with 12 more kills than William Smith.
- The Herons are in their first season as a varsity program.

How It Happened
- The Continentals upended the Golden Eagles in three tough sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-18).
- In the first set Hamilton took the lead for good at 4-3 and led by as many as seven points at 21-14 and 22-15.
- Brockport stormed back and drew within one point at 24-23.
- A kill by Bergeron finally finished off the set.
- After five lead changes in the second set, the Continentals went in front to stay at 19-16 after four straight points. McClintic served two aces.
- McClintic's kill wrapped up the set.
- Hamilton exploded out of the gate and took a commanding 13-3 lead in the third set. The run featured eight kills and three aces.
- The Golden Eagles didn't get closer than four points the rest of the way.
- Block assists by Morelli and Stimson and a spike by Carman closed out the match.
