Field hockey falls at fifth-ranked Trinity in NESCAC action

Unlucky Continentals hit the post twice with shots in the second half

Trinity College's Demarest Janis scored two goals and the Bantams posted a 3-0 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Trinity's Sheppard Field on Saturday.
 
Season Update
Hamilton dropped to 1-1 overall with the loss in its conference opener. The nationally ranked No. 5 Bantams improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NESCAC.
 
How It Happened
  • Janis gave Trinity the only goal it needed just 66 seconds into the first quarter.
  • The Bantams took that one-goal lead into halftime, but Caelin Flaherty increased the advantage with 9:25 left in the third quarter.
  • Claire Tratnyek '26 hit the post for the visitors with under a minute left in the third quarter.
  • Janis rounded out the scoring with 9:54 left in the fourth on Trinity's lone shot in the final 15 minutes.
  • Lilly Truchon '26 also hit the post for the Continentals late in the fourth quarter.
 
Notes
  • Flaherty had a goal and an assist for the Bantams.
  • Olivia McMichael made two saves and picked up the shutout for Trinity.
  • Abby Griffin '26 stopped five shots in her second career start for the Continentals.
  • The Bantams held a 13-11 edge in shots, but Hamilton recorded six of its shots in the fourth quarter as it tried to rally.
  • The Continentals received votes in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Top 20 preseason poll.
  • Trinity defeated Hamilton at home for the first time since 2015.
